I'm using budget in the loosest sense of the word, I don't want to cheap out on it either, <300€ would be ideal
At the same time though it's all about the price/quality ratio for me, I would rather pay an extra 50 for a good Asus than settle for a decent benq

All I did starting off was pick a preset then adjust brightness just to start playing but once I was in-game I noticed some levels were way to bright (anything with snow) so I adjusted the game brightness down a bit and it helped. From what ive read to get the 120-144 hz refresh you pretty much need to be ok with not having the best colors (compared to a IPS) or adjust the monitor down to 60hz and the colors are a bit better. If so then im going to make game profiles that use the 60hz settings for my single player games and MMOs then use the 144hz for FPS games. All in all it still looks really good and for the price you may not find a better 144hz monitor.
I just picked up that ASUS VG248QE monitor last night, for BF4 it was amazing compared to an older LCD HDTV I was using. The only issue ive had with it is that it does need to be calibrated a bit to look decent although I guess if you lower the refresh rate the color improves. I will be more then happy to post my settings if I get a chance tonight after work to tweak it a bit more.

This is what I posted in a thread I started yesterday after using it.
"So I ended up buying the Asus VG248QE since it was much cheaper then the ROG Swift ($400 difference) and the store was closer. The difference between the Asus and my Samsung LCD HDTV is massive, input lag and response times were drastically reduced plus the smoothness of the 144hz during BF4 made a huge difference as I reduced the quality to Med (AA low/Mesh ULTRA) so that my frames stayed between 160-199 with only a very few drops (unnoticeable during game play, saw only on CAM Software). Because of this my scores improved a lot as before I would get maybe 1-2 kills per 1 death now I'm getting 4-5 kills per 1 death (in the 3 matches I played). I guess my only complaint with the Asus is that it needs to be highly calibrated out of the box since stock settings are atrocious. I would highly recommend this monitor if your playing and FPS/Racing games."

I was trying to decide between this Asus and the Asus ROG Swift.

Thanks both of you for your replies
I was expecting that you would have to do some configuration out of the box, did you have to mess around with the settings for long?
I have actually been looking for a new monitor for a couple of months now, I ruled out the Rog Swift mainly because of price, but also because I don't think 1440p will really make a massive difference over 1080, I could be wrong though as I've never even played games on a 1440p, only watched movies on one so couldn't really see any noteable difference
