I'm trying to gather the people's experience who do it before.
So please note here everything about your operations!! (I know you may did somethings such as flashing bios or cmos and disabling cool&quiet to able to overclock or even reach to the CPU's true speed) and your result .
This will be very useful for me and others who wanna buy a AM3 CPU and spend a few time until they can upgrade whole PC.
(Do NOT say anything about this can't be!! because it is done before by many people)

Prove it? Your own link proves it..... But anyway...

Man, this looks like a complicated thread... 😛

I'm running an Athlon II X2 250 on a Foxconn A79A-S, wich is AM2+ and has the 790FX Chipset with 2x2GB DDR2 800 in dual-channel and had no problems at all. I installed W7 a dew months ago for the last time and it is running 24/7 without a single crash. When i first put the system together i OC'ed a little just for fun and still had no problems at all, except those of testing the machine with the mems at 950MHZ, wich of course crashed after a few seconds 😛

Conclusion, although i own a Foxconn mobo i do trust very much Asus' BIOS as i had the chance to test out a few dozens of their boards and they are a very respectable company. I went to your mobo's official page and saw that they list every phenom ii as compatible. If all the components are well i see no problem for you in the road. Don't forget that a slightly bad memory chip can lead to an unstable system and that most of the times that a system crashes it has nothing to do with the CPU.

Yeah man...radical.

Well.. This is successful one!! Thanks for note.

Are every 6 cores of that stuff working on that board?
What's your HT link speed please?

Thanks for sharing

Dear Enzo!
As you can see in the link that mr teflon2287 gave us , his cpu is working at 800 mhz and that's terrible .So this is just one of those problems that i think probably can happen.Obviously I'm not rich enough to upgrade my hole pc in every 2 years. because of that I'm trying to find a "SAFE" way to upgrade only that parts that can help me most.I said safe because I don't wanna lose that stuff's cost because of incompatibility of that stuff with my PC. beside these notes are useful for everybody who even not using amd. this is about the boards, brands ,cpus ,rams and actually how it works and will be compatible and performance together .So tthis thread will continue to we discover new events and accidents about this.
Thanks all.
So I'm still waiting for new experience about it.

It not a problem as he explained its cool n quiet.

You my friend are just worrying too much.

Your questions were answered in the 1st couple of responses in this thread but you seem to just keep going over and over the same stuff. I understand your concerns but you should just get on with it now.

That may be correct and very informative but it doesn't change the fact that it works perfectly well.
I have been running AM3 in AM2+ board for quite some time as others have with no issues.

I have benched the same cpu in a Crosshair 3 board and the differance was minimul.
The overclock was slightly higher on the AM3 board.

Sorry, I'm not sure that I understand you correctly.

Do you mean, how did I get it to show the actual maximum clock instead of the cool and quiet 800MHz? To do that I was just running something CPU intensive in the background (in this case, using gamma cruncher to calculate pi using all 4 cores), then hit validate in CPUz while it was running.

Yeah bot saying it wont work it will work. Just explaining why some people have issues with certain boards doing it

Yeah its definately a better setup on the AM2+ boards, I also have an AM2 DFI590SLI which was their flagship model and it won't run any Phenoms full stop even though other 590 boards will, but it clearly isn't supported on the website.

Basically if its listed as supported on the manufacturer website it should be ok.
Just trying to stop the OP freaking out again.

Agree with you there. Same board, I've got revision 2.0. Just dropped an Athlon II x4 640 into the board last night, works wonderfully. Vastly improved frame rates in games, great increase across the board.

One note, anyone who has this board, if you are upgrading to a quad, the FHL bios that is on Gigabyte's site did not work for me. I happened to have a copy of the FHe bios from someone on the forums, so had to put the old chip back in, and reflash. Once I dropped back to the FHe bios, the board and chip were happy. If anyone needs a copy of this bios, let me know, I've still got a copy on my memory stick.
