Anyone got LightScribe?

It scratches disks with a laser beam....
Cool stuff, but ya gots to buy expensive media to make it work, thankfully, it uses regular disks too, which is what I suspect most buyers use.

if you are wanting an image on the back of your disc, get a printer that prints on discs. The Lightscribe technology is a novel idea, but financially a waste of money. My dad bought a Epson R200, and the disks looks really good. As well as the printable media is much cheaper. My cousin on the other hand has a lightscribe that costs $1 a disc $.50 on sale and the discs dont look half as good, and they take forever to get the image on them. He burned one yesterday and the image took half an hour. I myself liked the idea of lightscribe till i found out the cost. Now i am looking into getting one of the Epson's that print on discs. The R200 was pulling about 60-70 on ebay. And the printable media I saw at Compusa on sale for $30 for 100 pack. Much cheaper and better looking.

Very nice feature. Makes disks look professional. Takes awhile to write an image. However, if your just going to burn a stolen dvd rip, I suggest using a plain ole' black sharpie. I would think it gets kind of expensive writing hundreds of movies to lightscribe media.

I agree with Liquidx. I have a lightscribe burner and a printer that can print labels onto discs. The printed labels look fantastic (I think I have an Epson r200, too) and the lightscribed discs look cheap and crappy in comparison. Printable media is a bit cheaper, though you have to pay for the ink.
Lightscribe also takes forever! As in 30 minutes for a moderately detailed image. Printer = 2 minutes max.

Summary: Lightscribe sux the biggie.

I got HP LightScribe DVD Rom and need special disks and shitty colors but details are good. No colors and only takes 5 ~ 10 mins to do.

To do that, Just Insert a CD, Backward into the LightScribe CD Rom and use a software like Sonic Express Labeler and choose image n text in library.

lightscribe is good,no ink to buy, epson printer is cheap but,the ink itself will cost you, your arm and leg and uses a lot of ink.

Learn how to draw creatively with a permanant marker. Use different colours too.

I played with LightScribe on my DW1640 once on regular disk and the result looks shittah.

or some fancy stickers u can get at a friendly Neighborhood Walgreens

😀

Not true, you might be a young start up developer or musician, and want to make a nice presentation on your software/music to pitch it to prospective investors... plenty of other uses for the technology, and in time it might develop into a more refined and useful utility to have, especially if it prints at the speed of laser printers, and worked on every disk type...

but think of the stickers !!

Light scribe is the shiznit. My DVDs look awesome.

Please Note though, that the High Quality option means around 20 minutes to burn a label. Labels are grayscale only, but you're only limuted by your ability with photoshop. The lightscribe software works a treat too.

Bull-freaking-shit about expensive media: here In New Zealand, where stuff costs a fortune, I buy (retail!) 20 single layer DVDs with lightscribe labels for less than $40 NZ (around $30 US).

Thoroughly recommedn Lightscribe: it's a great product.

Best to get the stand alone USB2.0 burner though - as you'll want to move it, I guarantee it!

You can get LS discs for under 30 cents each if you shop around. I have an LG that takes 24 minutes in high quality mode and I think 16 in low. The key is to learn what kind of image setup works with the technique - I've gotten some beauties. I've seen LS DVD burners for under $40. The printable stuff can look real good, but some models scratch the discs during printing and that's bad news.

I agree with you....lightscribe is not for most people though. For an important CD/DVD, it is a really good idea to have lightscribe.

 Just bought a BenQ LightScribe drive from Newegg. Came with Nero lightscribe software. 8) Found a web site that gave me a Good Overview and helped me get on my way 😀 . At first I got a little confused: , but with the info from the web site I made my way through it and burned my first music cd 8) , with a downloaded image pic scribed on the back 😛 found . Process was cumbersome, but the end product was pro looking 8) cd. As for cost of lightscribe media, they are high, but you can find them at Wal-Mart for a reasonable price. Also, CompUSA puts them on sale sometimes. Although, I wouldn't use it all the time, but I can see a good use for it when putting together photos DVD, hunting/fishing pic DVD, etc. Either way, price at Newegg was great, drive works good, process tedious, but worth it 😀
Here is the URL website that will give you DETAIL on the Lightscribe process 8)
