Just wondering how this cooling unit is working with the new IB cpu's. Ive read that the Ivy Bridge processors get hot! will this combination be okay to purchase?

Solution
I'm saying in a year or two, games may need a couple more ghz than what I'm clocking it to, and since I don't push my hardware too much- it will give me a little more (or I may just upgrade at that point, who knows). If it wasn't a good combination, I wouldn't be using it. Dropping $1300-1500 (depending on GPU) on a new build. I'm sure I would have shifted towards a water cooler if I thought it was absolutely necessary.

Are you even overclocking it? If not, it's great. If you are overclocking a little, it's good. If you are one of those people who overclocks way past necessity, it's not good.

The Hyper 212+ is on sale right now for $20 on newegg. They are practically the same. With the savings you could buy another fan for it. I Hyper...
Depends on if you're planning on ocing or not. But if you are ocing based on the reviews out there an aftermarket cooler would be a good idea. The 212 should be adequate though, unless you plan on quite serious ocing I'd think...

I Hyper 212+ with an extra fan on it (push+pull) would be better than a Hyper 212 Evo with one fan. But a Hyper 212 Evo with 2 fans could be a 1-2*C cooler than a 212+, in theory (which I will be doing granted I have enough sockets!)

Solution

If this holds true then a 212+ could not reach a speed of 4.5 and still have good temps.

Op get a frio or a silver arrow. The silver arrow is better

Where are you pulling 4.5 from? And yes, you wouldn't be able to under FULL LOAD.
