I built my first system with the help of the members of Toms Hardware. My computer is tied to windows 7 based on the software that I need to run. I bought, and am running a copy of windows 7 home oem from a local computer company. I had a weekend of rebooting to finally get all of the drivers I needed working. I now want to upgrade to ultimate to unlock higher ram capabilities, but anytime upgrade is no longer an option. I dread a clean install from my past experience with getting the various drivers to work. Is there a legit way to upgrade without a clean install?

Solution
Purchase An install disk for your desired Windows7 version. Copy your Hard drive to ensure a running Operating System if upgrade goes bad. After copy is completed and duplicated hard drive has been removed from the system insert install media and choose upgrade at the appropriate time. The windows installer will copy files, settings and applications/programs to the new up graded Windows 7. Up grading within windows 7 will take care of the driver files you have provided to the original version. It should do fine. You just need to find some one with a windows 7 upgrade disk or full install of the version you want. Make sure you have install disks for any applications you need just in case one or two do not function correctly or become...
I have 64 gb of ram on an ASUS x99-EWS with a xeon lga2011-3 2.5g.
I did not research the limitations of the windows 7 versions prior to purchase. It was only recently that I saw under "system " that I was using 16 of the available 64.

Also, A thought has occurred, are you running 64 bit (x64) or 32 bit (x86)? I remember something about 32 bit having trouble utilizing more than a certain amount. The details are not clear now I guess I will be reading on that now...
I hope I have said something useful to you in this. Good luck!

Please ignore the x86 vs x64 question as I have re-read the posts and refreshed my memory.
