Hello.

I've been trying to solve an issue with my monitor, but have been mislead by my biased opinion that what I'm seeing is normal. Every time I think it's the monitor(s) I always blame it on something else while the headaches, eye strain and my eyes going for the worst as I continue using. I would like for some of you people who know what's up to give me a confirmation on this.

I have an AOC2460PF 144hz 1 ms TN panel.
I also have my old cheap 60hz LG IPS screen 5ms screen that I've been testing on.

Starting off with the LG. I found it okay. Didn't really have any experience. 60fps yay for me. I play a lot of Overwatch and I remember noticing how I don't exactly see the models right as in they're kinda blurry when they move and I'm having difficulty discerning the details of the models. I thought that was normal and what not. It's a sort of motion blur. That's normal, right?

About 2 months ago I bought the AOC. Wow. 144hz feels sooooo good. Looks different. Smoother. But kinda weird also. Still a bit blurry when I move as well. Oh well. That's just normal. After having constant eye strain, migraines, and just generally being unable to see details I asked around whether or not this was normal. Cause when I watch videos they look crystal clear. When I play on my monitor it goes blurry when I move or when stuff moves. Oh well, I guess it's just the rendering of the videos, makes it perfectly clear. That's not what it's like in reality. Nobody really gets headshots on purpose, it's just a sort of aim for that general direction kinda thing. Then after being frustrated I posted on the forum whether anyone else dealt with this. The answer was no and maybe I have bad vision. Which I don't. Then I started testing the monitor and got some weird results. It started making sense. There was severe ghosting that was causing certain things to appear shimmery or blurry when I moved which rendered me unable to focus on things because it was basically out of focus and there was overlapping.

Today I go back to my old 60hz monitor, even though I remember that I had trouble discerning details on it as well. I can't really get used to the 60hz but the blurriness is there when I move. I tried connecting to the onboard graphics as well but the bluriness is there. Anyways, I decide on a whim to do some high fps videos with my camera, and these are the sorts of results that I got. Tell me if I'm the unluckiest guy and bought two really crappy/faulty monitors or am I just (il)legaly blind. I sent these vids to my girlfriend and asked her if she sees what I'm seeing, and she confirmed it was giving her a headache. It gives me severe nausea, eye strains, headaches that became migraines. In real life I have no vision impairment. I see everything perfectly clear.

This next test was done at 60hz on the AOC. There was no reason. I was messing with some stuff and different cables and figured to try and capture it slow mo and then saw it for what it was.
Any overdrive setting or refresh rate does little to nothing and I have to stop within 20 minutes.

The monitors on the wall are leaving severe trails which in real time looks just like fast blurring.

The bots basically double themselves with the amount of ghosting there is.

I need some input on whether anyone else is experiencing this. I have no trouble with my eyes focusing on anything in real life, but this is causing some horrible imagery in my eyes. Please help.

The 144hz was connected via DP. The 60hz is now connected via HDMI. Basically I went through the LG's overdrive and sharpness options while watching the UFO ghosting test and after some tweaking found something that is okay. It's just the 60hz that makes everything choppy right now, along with screen tearing due to v-sync off. And the response times are awful. BUT, at 60hz it looks 1000 times better and more clear than the AOC at any refresh rate or any setting and it isn't giving me pain right now.

I own a GTX 980ti. 4790k. 16 gb ram. I've tried DDU. Clean windows install. Using the onboard graphics. Different cables. Factory settings. You name it, I've done it.

My first instinct is that you may suffer from some kind of photo sensitivity. Maybe that's something to check out. Particularly since you get migraines and suffer with nausea. I wouldn't think that's normal. And that's not to say it doesn't happen.

With the games themselves, have you tried turning off motion blur? Most games for the last few years, and current, employ the technique in advanced graphics options. It's a nice trick sometimes. Personally, I turn it off. Only because I don't like how the blur works, and sometimes stretches across screen.
Maybe try turning that off. I've not played Overwatch (it just doesn't seem like my thing), but looking at some game-play, it makes some use of motion blur. Try reducing it to it's lowest setting. It may help.

Have you watched the videos I posted? There is no motion blur option in Overwatch. Textures that have ghosting in the vids look very blurry. Imagine having double vision and moving really fast. That's what the video shows. Would that not make a person nauseous? It isn't Overwatch exclusive but since that is what I play mostly I used it as an example, because I know what it's supossed to look like. I can look at anything normally except the monitor. I don't have blurry vision in real life or any of these symptoms.

I've tried a different DP cable. It has the overdrive settings. It doesn't matter if it's off or highest, the blurriness is horrible. Is this normal or should I rma this monitor? Can I rma it? Is this broken?

yeah, i see what you mean! jeez, not good.
