Where-abouts in the cycle is Apple for the MBP redesign? I'm curious because it could finally make the mac book pro a feasible laptop to buy, instead of a huge aluminium brick.

In june it's going to be 8 months since the last update (average update cycle is 9 months), so it's very likely that they are going to release an update then, especially since Ivy Bridge mobile CPUs and Radeon 7000 series mobile GPUs should be available then.
