Elbert a good many more really? Tell me what are they? I will give you a better example that crosses both platforms. A small little program called Adobe Photoshop. Say in 2002 you bought 7.0 and put it on your Win 200o machine. You could still install it on current Windows Vista machines. At the time you could buy it either as an OS9 version or an OSX version. I know for a fact with the experience for our upgrade at work, we had to buy all new software when we went to a new machine OS 10.4. The vast majority of people that would make the investment for such a valuable piece of software often find it suits their needs for a very long time. Same way with the actual computer, many find once they buy it, they use it for many years. I have co-workers that still have Windows 2000 or XP on their machines. They are still very satisfied and may see something in the store or wish to expirement a little with something new. I see new software in the stores that will still work with Windows 2000 and Mac software that does not go as far back as 10.2 with alone the older versions. PCs have are cheaper to begin with, have more powerful hardware, and a longer lifespan of functionality and upgrades. There are more software options for the consumer to find what they like and they do not have to invest in a whole new net when a new OS comes out that can still be installed on their hardware. Macs are good, but not so good to have faithful that follow them blindly and pay their apple tax. I swear people have less loyalty to their spouse than they do to a Mac.

I have a story kid of to that effect. When I was 17 I worked as a salesman at CompUSA for a bit. I wasn't the Mac salesman, but if he was busy, I was the one that knew the second most about them.

A couple came in looking for a surge protector. I showed them where they were, and the lady then asked if we had any "Apple" ones. So I took them over to the apple section and showed them ones that cost twice as much, but had these colored plastic covers that snapped on to make them match their Imac (back when they were colored).

I then showed them the EXACT same protector, but without the covers and asked them which they wanted... No hesitation, the girl pointed to the "pretty" one that matched her mac and the guy to the cheaper one that did the exact same thing.

A better example of how iPeople work I never could have found...

[citation][nom]beehew[/nom]Fixed that for you.[/citation]
In part I agree, but in another part, I know it was the Mac coming out.

I've seen things like this play out WAY too often to just attribute it to the estrogen. 😛

[citation][nom]egowhip69[/nom]Wait, tech support, from MS? I've had to open cases for my work a couple times, and it costs $100 just to start out... I never knew ANY of MS products had real tech support. And sorry about the link, grabbed the wrong one. (had a bunch of tabs open when researching) Even then, I don't mind $175 for an OS I'll run for the next 3-5 years. I think it was about that price for my XP copy, and I never regretted that purchase. Never made the change to vista... simply because it wasn't mature when it came out, and even then, some friends I had working at MS said to wait...[/citation]
So your saying your not going to upgrade to win7 for 3-5 years? The $175 price is with no free upgrade. Guess an Apple OS hunter series then wouldn't need to dissuade you.

Um, no genius.

If you read my post, I said that I have XP, skipped Vista, and will probably buy Win7. I fully expect Win7 (when it comes out and I buy it, OEM of course) to last me 3-5 years, or hopefully many more... much like XP has done.

Urdu PageComposer Pro for office 97, Hot Sync software for my palm, and Novell remote control of XP workstations is not supported just to name a few more. Now XPM is ultimate edition only so wonder how many programs you loss with win7 lower versions due to greed? I wonder how many none win7 office versions will work without ultimate edition. Maybe photoshop needs XPM? Now why isn't ultimate edition as low a price as OSX?

The $175 price you stated was in referance to the Vista ultimate edition with no free upgrade I posted. This is what you said you don't mind to pay for 3-5 years. For Win7 free it will cost you another $10. You messed up as I read you post correctly. You later said you that was about the price of your XP. You in no way state how long you have used your XP copy.

Ok, I guess you have NO idea about nuances of language. By me saying that I wouldn't mind paying $175 for an OS that I 'll run for 3-5 years... much like XP has done, I initiated that I've already HAD XP for that 3-5 year span, and wouldn't mind spending $175 for the next OS.

And, ye Gods, do you really have to nitpick a $10 diference on the OS price??? Getting the exact price of the Win7 release is NOT my point or main concern.

So, no, you DIDN'T read my post correctly. I even had a co-worker come over and read MY post and he told me it meant EXACTLY what I just had to spell out to you. I then had him read YOUR post, and besides making disparaging remarks about your sentence structure, asked if you had mental challenges understanding people.

I wasn't nipicking the $10 but you question how I read what you wrote. Trying to backpedel by editing your statment with the bold. LOL

No time stated for XP use only price evaluation comparing of past purchases. Researching the price of Vista with the tabs open. The $175 was Vista ultimate with no free upgrade that I stated.
OEM ultimate with no upgrade to win7 is $175 for system builders.
Think your co-worker doesn't what to tell you your wrong. LOL May as well ask your mom sitting behind you which has already said your right.

Backpedel? I didn't do any editing. I haven't played enough in tis forum to worry about editing... [citation]

Again, if I mentioned that I wanted a car to last for 10 years. Then mention in the NEXT breath that I had purchased a Honda previously for 10k and never regretted it... well, MOST normal people would think it's ALL connected, as they should. YES, there is a price comparison happening, but there is also a connection to the preceding sentence. Geeze, you'd think that someone that posts on a tech site board would get that... but from your responses I guessed wrong. next time I'll spell EVERY LITTLE THING our for you so you can't misunderstand.
[nom]elbert[/nom]Again, Think your co-worker doesn't what to tell you your wrong. LOL May as well ask your mom sitting behind you which has already said your right.[/citation]
Says the genius using "LOL". I have nothing to prove to you. I had my co-worker read my post as I had no clue how you could read what I wrote and not understand what I meant. But again, I guess I'll just have to spell it all out for you every time.

Whoops, this posting software doesn't work like my other site's. Oh well, I've had to muddle through your posts, you can deal with this one.

elbert MS has stated XPM is for that software they could not get to work on Vista but was able to work on XP. All the software you stated does work with XP and will now work with XPM correcting their mistake with Vista and making it more compatable for those that need it. Again what software were you able to buy in OS 9 (classic) that will install and work in OSX? Will new software work with OS 9 for those content with their system and do not want to spen the money on an overpriced underpowered mac.

True but if you mention you wound pay 10k for x car and expect it to last you 10 years. Then go on to tell your last car was Honda. I would wonder what car you looking at now. This is what you did and im sorry if you didnt mean it this way but that the way it was.

Did they state why XPM wouldn't work on win7 home? Diablo 2 works for both and mostly depends on the software developers support. Same goes for windows because if the software developer doesn't support the upgrade OS really doesn't matter how much the OS maker try's. If wordferfect was owned by the original maker it could be upgrade to work. All depends on software developers supporting their products.

Agreed!!! Did me the same way.
