I can already see the headline "Shiny Plastic Shortage! Apple prices Skyrocket!"

[citation][nom]cheepstuff[/nom]i wish one of my late shipments from newegg became headline news like this...[/citation]

Yeah, buy you probably don't get an erection anytime you see Steve Jobs, or foam at the mouth whenever anyone talks bad about apple.

I placed a custom order two weeks ago. I ordered with standard gloss screen, but bumped the processor up to 2.9, 8GB of RAM, and 320 7200RPM drive. Ship date stands at Feb 9 both on receipt and on order status on my account.

I ordered my MBP 17" Custom ordered (not stock). Ordered it on Jan 9. Since that time the site has always set a ship date of Feb 9th. That hasn't changed..

I ordered a stock model on January 9th and my shipping estimate remains what it has always been, February 9th. I have seen no evidence to back up these claims of delays.

To Our Valued Apple Customer:

Thank you again for your order!

Wrapping up the new 17-inch MacBook Pro is taking a few days longer
than we projected.

As a result, we will be unable to ship your 17-inch MacBook Pro
until February 19, 2009.

If you don't want to wait, you may cancel your order and receive a
prompt refund by calling our toll-free customer service number at
800-676-2775 or by visiting our online order status website at
http://www.apple.com/orderstatus.

If we do not hear from you before we ship the 17-inch MacBook Pro to
you, we will assume that you have agreed to this shipment delay. In
that event, a shipment notification with tracking information will be
emailed to you as soon as your order is shipped.

Again, there is no need to contact us unless you wish to cancel
your order.

We appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience this
delay may have caused you.

Thank you for shopping at the Apple Online Store!

Sincerely,
The Apple Online Store

A great alternative to the MBP 13 is the Toshiba Portege R700/R705. There's also the Sony Vaio Z . The HP Envy 14" is also something to look at. The R700 is the only one that is really much more affordable.

commercial link removed.
