[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]Those are for tablets with radios... $375 for a 64GB tablet with LTE? Name me one tablet that costs that much. Come back to reality.[/citation]

Lol how about you (apple fanboi) come back to reality. $800 for a tablet? Most of that is apple tax. If apple made cars, their "Honda Civic" is USD$60,000 with additional $200 to add lightning connector adapter.

[citation][nom]deadlockedworld[/nom]Tech site. Largest tech company in the world. Unavoidable. Tom's editors do have an "Apple Free" version of the site though. They should repost that for everyone so they stop complaining.[/citation]

Apple is not the 'largest' tech company in the world; only the most expensive one at the current stock market; something that will change within 2-3 years at the most.

[citation][nom]Realbeast[/nom]Come on everyone, Apple users need to stand in line to upgrade to the latest model, it's part of their social DNA. They can't help it, it's called the iEnvy gene. Who would camp out for an iPad 3.1?[/citation]
People camped out for the 3GS and the 4S

Let's see. A relatively low res screen, 16GB of memory costs and addtl $100, it still cannot run real apps, and we have yet another 'connector to nowhere' good only for interfacing with a dock to give us universal ubiquitous USB connectivity.
But to the larger issue common to ALL tablets...they lack integration of a cell function for voice communications that would allow real convergence from one direction, and more importantly, they lack an elegant functional OS integrated secure remote access terminal functionality that would allow one to access another computer, run real applications or query data and to push/pull subsequent data as needed in a form that could easily be deactivated or scrubbed by an admin if lost without carrying around a laptop full of potentially sensitive information posing an enhanced security breach, thus providing convergence at the 'other end'.

Thus we have another over-priced duplicitous device that neither adds to functionality nor that reduces the need to carry a phone and a laptop.

By definition, that renders the entire format, just like the netbooks before them, superfluous without the inclusion of already existing technologies mentioned above that would enable true convergence into a compelling format.

As to all the folks so shocked and dismayed as to why the release now? SIMPLE!
One: Christmas!
Two: Microsoft's Surface
You don't wait and merely react passively in the market, you preemptively capture the market spotlight with a competing product.

But as to why tablets at all? They are just overpriced under-poweered novelties without ANY compelling need - and that is ALL tablets!

Why they don't combine the mini with cell phone capabilities and also enable iOS with secure remote access terminal capabilities allowing one to elegantly access remote computers at home or office and to tun real apps and to push or pull data as necessary without the need to carry around a laptop filled with the security exposure created by carrying all of the data that comprises a security breach - thus created a truly converged (remember that heretofore meaningless buzzword???) device that effectively replaces a cellphone and a laptop in the field and provides all of the functionality in a single more secure device would actually come close to presenting a truly compelling product with increased functionality that covers all of the bases at a lower total price point and in a more productive and secure manner.

Until that happens, all of the fanboy angst demonstrated here is simply hot air. And all of the excitement over an uncompelling limited over-priced dumb tablets is just that - dumb.

$500 for cheapest of the new iPads huh?
Does it suck your D**K?

Hey crapple, how about you just throw an SD card slot on there instead of jerking people around with the internal memory storage. The actual cost of memory is next to nothing but they charge an arm and a leg for it cause they cut off all other ways to add memory. They charge $200 more for what would be a $20 memory card. That's 1000% more than they should be charging. But the sheep will continue to follow.

Locked down proprietary devices are not the future they are just a way for greedy companies to make money. The iFad will fade eventually...
Tactics like that are why I don't buy their products.

Well, let's look at things. If you were to go pay full price for a cell phone, right now. A smart phone at that (not that it matters) with 4G LTE....look at the cash you would pay for the privs of the cellular portion of the piece of hardware.
