no front facing camera, no speaker, no microphone ... Looks like they are trying to patent rectangles without rounded edges.

all rectangles now belong to apple. [citation][nom]fuzzion[/nom]Its first to invent in the US and first to file for the rest of the world. Go study an IP law book[/citation]

apple patented the iphone design 8 years before it was made.

heck ... how is this an invention? http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/02/01/apple_trademark_shop_design/

patented rectangle tables arranged in a line ... Schools are going to get sued by Apple now. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/dc/Calhan_Colorado_High_School_Cafeteria_by_David_Shankbone.jpg

No earpiece makes it likely that this is iPod related. Expect something similar, but with an earpiece, to show up later as an iPhone.

I think Zak might be reading way too much into this. Seem to me the patent is for a way of having the camera and flash behind the same bit of glass without the flash messing up the camera. That is all. Read the actual patent, and explain to me how it has anything to do with "a cheaper plastic iPhone".

Nitrium, I agree. I read the patent; it describes a cover, not a phone.

"The back of the device is embroiled by a protective cover that Apple says "can wrap around and protect at least the rear portion of the portable device without adversely affecting an image capture process carried out by the rear facing camera assembly."

This has got to be a joke...

Guys, get serious. Read the damn patent, its for a phone cover, not a phone.

It also states that its a continuation for a previous patent, which is for a phone cover (http://www.google.com/patents/US20120070140)

[citation][nom]wolley74[/nom]funny how the camera is in the EXACT SAME PLACE as the Samsung Acclaim's rear camera, not good[/citation]
It's also in the exact same place as the iPhone 5, 4s, 4, 3gs ...

Doesn't ANYONE have the ability to read? Like where it clearly says this patent is for a PROTECTIVE CASE FOR a phone. One that doesn't interfere with the flash, like many cases do.

[citation][nom]nodeffect[/nom]Yo dawg, I heard you like patent, so I'm going to patent this patent while I'm writing this patent.[/citation] A patent within a patent within a patent. Patentception.

The US switched to a first to file system way back in 2011.

See: The America Invents Act of 2011 (signed in to law September 16, 2011)

What was that you were saying about studying an IP Law book?
