[citation][nom]Stickmansam[/nom]They also had lower overall unit sales 100 million projected vs 88 million actualIs this a sign of falling market share or falling overall tablet sales or just plain overestimation?[/citation]

Its a sign of reduced market share due to increased quality of competitors products.

What will really be interesting is the end of this year, when quality 7" tablets are half the cost of the iPad mini ($100-$150).

I thought there was no "room" in the market for a 7" tablet and that competitors would have to "find out the hard way"?

Didn't someone at Apple say that?

[citation][nom]chaospower[/nom]"Apple introduced the iPad Mini back in October, a 7.9-inch tablet that's 23-percent thinner and 53-percent lighter than the third-generation iPad. Powered by Apple's new ARM-based A6X chip, it features the same number of pixels as the original iPad and iPad 2, 5MP iSight cameras, dual-band Wireless N connectivity, and more. Pricing ranges from $329 to $659 USD."That is incorrect...The ipad mini is powered by an A5 chip. If it was powered by an A6X then really nobody would buy the regular ipad.[/citation]
What?!?!? 98% of the buying public could care less what processor is in there as long as they have a good experience using the device. Tech heads with their love of is it GHZ faster are a vast minority.

[citation][nom]droidavenger[/nom]I remember legions of Apple fanboys who used to criticize 7" tablet and said this form factor was completely useless. How soon they have changed the tone once Apple has decided to make one. I think if Apple made a paper iPad and said it is extremely light, and will looks extremely cool they will praise it too.[/citation]

Usual pointless drivel that seeks to drive home some pointless point. So, android phones looked like RIMS until the iPhone came out. Samsung copied the iPhone. So there!

[citation][nom]christarp[/nom]I don't see how they are shooting themselves in the foot by opening up to a new market and getting more orders with two combined than just the original. Better to cannibalize your own customers with the changing market than letting another company take your customers.[/citation]

TH has grown to cater to the Android fan boys. No articles about how Apple is gaining market share, Android having 112 times more malware than iOS, or even how iPhone is 3 times more reliable than Galaxy S3. Sure Android is great but article titles show bias.

Besides that the iPad mini is not much cheaper than the iPad so even if its sales are cannibalizing its still good for Apple.

Apple is loosing market share by leaps and bounds on the global scale http://news.yahoo.com/total-shipments-android-phones-surpass-1-billion-2013-230036024.html

Where did you get your statistics for android malware? Android is just as safe as iOS for malware unless you CHOOSE to make it unsafe. It's the same as iOS, don't jailbreak it and install from outside the app store and you won't get a virus. http://www.androidcentral.com/android-malware-scanners-should-you-use-one

A blanket statement like "the iPhone is three times more reliable than the GS3," in what way? Three times less likely to drop a call, have a screen break, crash?

I can tell you this much, my statements are three times more reliable than yours. Its Friday and I had to feed the Troll's. Robochump is a fitting name..

Funny how the company that refused to sell a smaller/cheaper iPad until just a few months not only ended up producing the iPad mini but the mini actually outpaced its big brothers' sales even with its lower specs.

Apple did not originally want to go there but this seems to prove that Apple would have been horribly wrong to obstinately camp on their former position.

[citation][nom]claptrap22[/nom]"The fruity company"? Really?[/citation]

He's used that lame line a few times. I suspect he's fruitier than Apple with that type of line, if you know what I mean.

Or WAS a cancer, depending on how you look at it....
