hehe, lots of funny comment up there.
the apple logo is like using a name, small businesses can have the same/similar names as long they're NOT in the same industry.
anyways, i never bought an apple product too. it's all fad to me.

Hasn't the apple been a long time symbol of education? I sort of recall someone by the name of Isaac Newton and the apple that helped him realize the power of gravity.

Besides those two logos while similar in some ways they are different enough to distinguish that they are logos of two very different things. Once Apple loses in court I just wish that they could be fined or even counter sued for starting such a bogus lawsuit in the first place.

[citation][nom]Igot1forya[/nom]The school is probably a Dell exclusive school... if it was not before, it is now.[/citation]
After the sue, it can only afford DELL.

BTW, in the case of Apple Inc. vs. The Big Apple......

Two things are stupid. This lawsuit and the editorialism this story reeks of. "Symbolizing education in Canada is apparently a no-no because iPods are more important than learning." Why make a strawman out of an already absurd lawsuit? Just present the facts, please.

I might expect to see these headlines in the future:

Apple sues Snapple, claims name is "too similar."
Apple kicks puppy named Applesauce, claims dog "too ugly to bear Apple name."
Apple blocks all sales of Newton's Apple DVD releases, claims "show infringed on both 'Apple' and 'Apple Newton' trademarks," and that said DVDs "might educate some people some where."

Apple obviously doesn't want people to confuse a well respected educational system with their own pride misplaced failure of a reputation. As stated by someone before, I hope their company grids to dust during this economical crisis, and is replaced of course, so micro$oft doesn't become a complete monopoly, last thing we need is Windows 7 costing $999 us. -.-

I just want to take a moment to laugh at the snoody college students who bought Apple products because they thought Microsoft was an evil monopoly. Jokes on you, Apple supporting morons!

How dare these bastards try to infringe on the all powerful Jobs! They act like apple's are common objects.

There are a ton more schools and school districts that use an apple in their logo....

ok getting bored, moving on

Well, maybe they can start suing 'ARGENTA' too, one of the smaller banks in Europe.
Despite apple being a multi-million dollar company, I bet they don't wanna try against a bank. In the end, Apple will lose this battle (against any company having an apple logo) anyways...

Why not? You just made a 'strawman' of yourself.

[citation][nom]zenmaster[/nom]Why is everyone so surprised? Apple does not seem like a good citizen in the Cyber world....iTunes: Huge on DRM and making their songs non-playable elsewhere.Jobs claims he does nto like DRM, but takes no action to be DRM free like other sites.iPhone: Non-Replaceable battery to force people to buy new phones before the old ones break. FirmWare to allow the wiping off software from the device Apple does not approve of? Trying to restrict software to the AppleStore and only allow what they want there? OS: Coding it to specifically fail on machines w/o the Apple BIOS so they can overcharge for Hardware for the honor of running their OS? Trying to Wipe Apple Forum Posts when users report issues with their systems?I may not like Microsoft, but I certainly don't view Apple as a White night fighting an evil empire. They are simply two companies out to make every penny they can. It's capitalism. No more and no less.[/citation]

WOW, BRAVO! I couldn't have ranted better myself... while atypical Apple users are busy pretending their shit doesn't stink, non-bias users such as ourselves are seeing through the pretty (overly) packaged fluff and calling out Apple on what they truly are: a faux "Corp for the people," when in reality they are actually MORE restrictive than MS or anyone else for that matter.

Let me add another to your list: MAG-Safe! Ah yes the wonderful innovation (LONG invented before Apple coyly took accreditation for it!) that Apple refuses to release the PSU brick specs for, so that 3rd parties may not (w/o huge hassle) provide us with a MUCH cheaper working alternative. I've seen these things for my MacPro go from $60-80!?! And you have to buy a car adapter, plane adapter... bling bling bling if you know what I mean?

There IS a guy http://mikegyver.com/ that will make you what Apple SHOULD be—or allowing others to produce, but it's not cheap. It seems to be one of the only tried and true alternatives to the Apple Regime. I'm so sick of users ignorantly tooting their own horn and refusing to see the cream all over their own faces, while Apple slyly robs them blind for EVERY single pittance they can... Geesh.

Huh? I used a direct quote. I didn't summarize anything. Or was that "of" in there on purpose? I made a strawman of myself? What? Do you know what strawman argument is?

Looks like 2000 people agree with apple.
How many employees do they have? 😀

Let's send money to that school to help them fight!
Bring the rotten Apple down!

Now that I've got that out of my system, I should point out that they haven't actually sued yet, just sent a cease/desist letter.
I wish they'd be a big more discriminatin' in who they target to protect their stuff, though.

That's not the point. Law isn't justice, and justice obviously is neither law. This case is like any other case in this _capitalism_ world. Anyone remember a kid whose name Mike Crow? He registered the mikecrowsoft dot com and got sued by ms. Also not so long ago linux community been blown by tux logo infringement. (that's not Linus doing, btw). Just typical law firm, and patent ruling.

Do I have to bring it more? Anascape! Google it, put "nintendo" keyword in it. And so with Eolas, put "microsoft, embed object" in it. OMG! where in the world are we? Sosumi!

Do Anascape _created_ one, just "one" gaming controller? NO! Nothing! They just have to patented it, invest some money, and then wait a "big" company like _nintendo_ _sony_ or_ms_ to use the technology and cash out. (Man.. who do You thing invented car wheel?)

Who the hell is Eolas? And where is it now? I'm one of web developer who got _sued_ by (all) my clients because their website did not working (because) MS has to take out embed object from IE (because) eolas sue them!

Dig some information about _patent_squatting_ and You all know what I mean. What if You have a name "madonna", and find a domain "madonna dot com" containing xxx rated website? Sue them or buy them?

Thank God it's Sir Tim Berners-Lee who invented www (with brain and guts), instead of Brad Armstrong!
