[citation][nom]memadmax[/nom]What good is having a powerful quad core processor for when you can't do anything with the thing but browse the web????[/citation]
It has quad core graphics, the processor is dual core still.

[citation][nom]acadia11[/nom]Apple created the tablet category 2 years ago? I thought the first tablet was created almost 40 years ago, and I could have sworn Microsoft came out with the original Slates more than 10 years ago, and let's not talk about the Palm 20 years ago ... and ... in other words get over yourself Apple. You've never created anything what you do is take an existing idea and product and execute your adaption very well and make it easy to use. Let's be honest now.[/citation]

Yes, Apple created the tablet market. Sure some existed previously but the real market did not exist.

This new iPad is tempting me a lot but... I still have no real use for a tablet with all my money going to my desktops where I breath all day long. I get it for some people $500-600 for a tablet they take everywhere and do almost all they need maybe great, but still if it would be just $200 that money would be put on the wrong side for myself. And for something I am not going to use a lot imagine how would I feel when the shiny newcomer arrives the next year... I will keep reading to find how powerful this one is but I think I will have to wait for the real powerful iPad that will run some serious graphic apps in a format also compatible with my desktop ones (what I need).

sigh, people hating on apple like children... it's a business guys. and it's a good functioning product. the only bone i have to pick is why why why oh why after 2 years is the basic model only packing 16gb. wtf is this shit? seriously apple? one thing you could have really easily boosted up on. oh well, won't be getting it anyway. nice res though, even if it's not widescreen. don't really care for widescreen, it has more pixels and can display 1080p easily

[citation][nom]DaFees[/nom] I mean that Asus infinity will have 1920x1200 (Why 16:10 and not 16:9 like most movies and HD youtube videos are?) and apparently Samsung will have a new tab with 2560x1600 (again 16:10).[/citation]
As opposed to the better viewing experience you would get from the 4:3 display on the ipad?

[citation][nom]DaFees[/nom]"The New iPad 2"Seriously, despite what all the android fanboys might say, this new iPad is amazing. I mean I've seen enough evidence from all the commentators on here to know as much. Apple has 1 tablet, the iPad, which will come in two flavors. One with a retina display and one without. Android on the other hand has tabs from Samsung, Asus and others each with their own unique resolution. I mean that Asus infinity will have 1920x1200 (Why 16:10 and not 16:9 like most movies and HD youtube videos are?) and apparently Samsung will have a new tab with 2560x1600 (again 16:10). Point is android has so much segmentation that it's hard to offer a consistent experience across all devices that would make everyone go wow. Also it doesn't help Android when not every device is running the same OS. I mean look at the Kindle Fire (not even running Honeycomb where as newer devices are). Simply put Apple knows what they are doing and this new iPad will be a huge success.[/citation]

You do know what you just said is wrong in so many ways. Android does not create any tablets, Android is an OS, so you are comparing and apple to an orange. Apple does not have 1 tablet, it has the iPad, iPad 2 and the New iPad, if you want to debate that it is still an iPad, Samsung only have 1 android smartphone then, Samsung Galaxy. In my opinion, nothing wrong with 16:10, if anything, I believe it is better as you will have more pixels and you can still watch 1080p movies on it (the black band does not phase me one bit). But I do agree with the segmentation of the Android system.

[citation][nom]alextheblue[/nom]You're assuming clocks haven't gone up as well. Look at the PS Vita. That's got an MP4 also. Who knows, it could even be using very fast dedicated VRAM (again like Vita). We don't know enough about it at this point. Although, I am quite certain it won't be consistently 4X as fast. Different architectures and software have favorites. But the potential is there.I still won't buy one.[/citation]
Assuming clocks haven't gone up from what? Earlier ipad 2's? I didn't dispute the 4x A5X performance gain. But based on how much they stretched the performance of the A5, I wouldn't be surprised if that 4x figure was a 'best case scenario' as well.

lol... I referred specifically to "The SGX543 MP2 in the A5" and the "GPU in Tegra 3."

the apple ipad is a great product. the ipad 3 is not a great product considering the events that took place for its introduction (hype / build up) compared to the i pad 2.

LG made the retina display, one of the only mentionable things about the i pad 3. LG is certainly proving themselves with incredible displays. I can't wait for the OLED TV to be released.

So what is the threshold for a display stop being a retina display. If 264ppi is enough the there were tons of smartphones with retina displays log before apple launch theirs. All 3.5 inches 480x800 screens are retinas displays because they have a pixel density of 266ppi.

Sad that they had to make it 8% heavier.... current tablets are already a bit too heavy.

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]4:3 aspect ratio - needs to be widescreen or almost half the screen is wasted with black bars[/citation]
How much of the content you watch on a tablet is actually 16:9? The iPad is not for watching movies.

4:3 makes much more sense for reading documents and websites. It's also much easier to type/control in landscape mode, because you can actually reach the center of the screen with your thumbs.

why are yo complaining about 16:10 over 16:9 when the ipad is 4:3 your argument doesnt help your point.. its got nice specs.. but its ugly runs on a crappy os and is closed like fort knocks.. the main reasons i will never own one.. android has so many choices i think you really meant to say. ipad has one.. just like an android has so many prices and ipad only has one.. super over priced. if i was going to pay $900 for an i pad i would just buy a windows 7 tablet and get a real computer..

Apple iPad ranges from 499.00 to 869.00 depending on the storage you want and weather or not you want the LTE radio. What are you talking about. You can also get the iPad 2 for 399.00 which lines up with the other last gen level tablets and still stomps the hell out of em. It is ok for you to prefer Android but don't sit there and act like someone is forcing the highest priced iPad down your throat. Don't like it, don't buy it and keep making excuses so that you can keep feeling like you made the right decision when you bought the sub performing Android tablet.

[citation][nom]viciouz2000[/nom]yeah, that high of a resolution doesn't really matter or even help on a 10 inch screen.[/citation]
Agreed. But from the number of down votes you received, there are apparently at least 12+ people out there who are incapable of understanding that. I'm sure all those who voted you down will be waiting in line the day this comes out - even if they are supporting suppression of workers at Foxconn. Its too bad people are incapable of recognizing the marketing bling of super-high yet unusable resolution as it is parting them with money that would be better spent elsewhere. I imagine thousands of crApple fans are drooling over this while murmuring to themselves "My Precious." :sarcastic:

Anyone else concerned that 3D games won't play well at that resolution? Unless you can cram a GTX580 inside the iPad envelope, I don't see how games will run well at that native resolution. Maybe the iPad does a good job interpolating 1024 up to this new resolution without looking like poo?

The storage space on the ipad is so limited. They should have an option to have a 1.8" single platter 5mm thick hard drive in it (Just like the regular ipod), 250GB in size is possible with the platter densities we have today.
A lot of people would like that amount of space versus 64GB.
Battery life shouldn't be an issue since i'm sure they'd use some caching algorithms so the drive is spun down most of the time.

[citation][nom]jezus53[/nom]Not that I'm supporting him, but the xbox 360 isn't being praised for having superior build quality and parts.[/citation]

Should be since its made by Foxconn

platter densities? These devices use solid state storage. How do you think they would be able to keep the cost down if they are providing all the hardware + 250gig of solid state storage. You are looking at over $200-$500 just in storage cost alone if they where to do that. This is not a general purpose computing device so 64gig is plenty of storage for most cases out there. The most popular unit is their 32 and 16 gig units.

Im not sure if any of this helps teh point either.. ill say $900 becuase with my android storage isnt a concern since i can have whatever i want in it via expansion cards.. which is a major major downfall of the ipad. also why would i buy an ipad 2 when the 3 is out. stoms the hell out of them? there are some dream lands i wish i could enter. i dont like it.. i refuse to buy it but that doesnt mean i preffer android at all.. problem here is they arent excuses they are the simple facts why an ipad is a totally unatractive toy.. but i cant for the life of me ever remember a time when any tablet performed in a bad way compaired to an ipad.. the only thing special about this new one is going to be instantly outdone when the 2560x1600 samsung comes out so the only real thing that would make me want it is already gone.

Cut the apple tax in half? i mean if we are talking about platter hd's the cost of a 250 gig thjat came out what a decade ago? would be nominal. compaired to the ssd already in it and of course the 200% markup. and i dont know about you but like all the other low end tablets.. and i say that meaning all the none real OS ones like the android, ios, blackberry. its all about music and videos.. what eats space more then music and videos? so yes space is a major concern.. i think your arguing the wrong points.. or the wrong side..

Movies are meant to be swapped out. These devices are not mass storage devices. They are media consumption devices. You are also not going to store every song you have ever bought on the device. That is why they have playlists. Don't confuse your desired usage with the intended usage of the device. If it does not meet your needs buy something that maps to your usage requirements. No one is forcing you. We are not talking about HD platters. No one uses them in a device that can be dropped easily anymore. They have not been used in these types of devices in a while. Flash or Solid State storage is more appropriate for this type of device and we all know what the cost of capacity is on those storage mediums.

Like anyone else, I would like to pay less money for any device I buy but when a highly desired product is number 1 in their market with nothing threatening it along with the fact none of these devices are a necessity at the price point that is currently set then why would anyone lower the price when the market has accepted it. Would you? So being that these devices are not a necessity you have to look at the price and say to yourself "Can I justify spending this money on this". If not, then move on. If you can then get it and enjoy it.

So no, I am not arguing the wrong points or the wrong side. This is not charity and no one is getting a warm and fuzzy by lowering the price. Prices are lowered when manufacturing costs go down allowing the companies to be more competitive while improving or maintaining their margins. If you are number one with no real threats to your position then being more competitive is not as much of a concern. Every company does this. Look at the Sony and the PS2. Remember how long it was before they lowered the price of that thing?

Number 1 :Expansion slots. You can swap SDcards out vs just plugging the thing into your PC and transferring media. Tomato’s or Tomato’s. It is a matter of preference. Neither is wrong. If that is your requirement then find a solution that provides you that requirement.

You next statement, why would I buy a iPad 2 when the iPad 3 is out? One word to answer that one. Budget.

The stomps the hell out of them statement that I made is purely my opinion that seems to be shared by many. The same as the opinions conveyed by people that prefer other solutions. I don't take offense to opinions; we are all entitled to them. I take issue with popular opinion based on misinformation and no facts. Some of the nonsense that I have seen in these posts are extremely creative to the point where you have to question if they are serious or just being sarcastic and allot of times they are completely serious. I have to admit, it is quite entertaining.

"iPad is a totally unattractive toy" - Again your opinion. Personally, I would not buy a device like this to watch movies or play games or listen to music. I bought a HP Touchpad for my 2 year boy for that and it only cost $99. Works just fine for that. It goes to the point of justifying your purchase. The iPad for my usage requirements is perfect. I have both personal requirements (Email, Web browsing, Applications, Pictures) and Business requirements (Hundreds of large PDF documents, books, Business applications Corporate email, calendaring, presentations, demonstrations etc....). There are things that are important to me that may not be important to you. Sure an Android device can do some of that of that, it just does not do it as well, as smooth, and does not have the level of support that I need for my type of use. This is based on my actual experience with a number of Android based devices and a several Android tablets. Samsung and Asus is a pain in the ass to deal with when you have issues. With Apple, I go to the store, they do diagnostics and then replace the product. Done. I am back in action. And they do that with all their iDevices . So for me this device is used for the convenient consumption of information. It is more of a nice TOOL for me but it is still not a necessity.

So what you believe is a toy is really determined by your expected usage and based on what you indicated your usage of these devices are (more for entertainment purposes) it would imply that all tablets and not just the iPad based on your use would in fact be TOY's.

So I am not arguing the wrong points or the wrong sides. I am arguing from a perspective and a realistic usage standpoint. We all justify our purchases differently. There are people doing all kinds of cool things with these devices. The iPad just has more uses because of the number of commercially available applications out there and the apps are their because of the uniformity of the hardware configurations. It’s not a fragmented solution. You buy an iPad or iDevice and Apple provides a means to get everything you need on the device in 1 place. Easily, quickly, securely. And on top of that, you still can get media and stuff from other places and use it on your iPad.

Convenience is a very expensive thing and often times us so called Tech people are too narrowly focused on specifications and overlook other qualities that really make the difference for most people. Those qualities also cost money.

There are ways to justify any price point. At the end of the day, only you can make that decision for yourself. Sound sounds like you have as I have. Just took us in different directions.

[citation][nom]ap3x[/nom]Number 1 :Expansion slots. You can swap SDcards out vs just plugging the thing into your PC and transferring media.[/citation]

The big advantage to having the choice of SD cards is you can usually get a 32gb SD for around 30-40 depending on the company and class rating. This is compared to almost an extra $100 for every teired storage upgrade for an iPad or other device without SD expansion. At best, the next teir up gives you an extra 32GB for $100 (32GB compared to 64GB). Worst case you are spending an extra $100 for a move from 8GB to 16GB (or 16GB to 32GB) which is just unreasonable and really just added profit for the company with little return for the consumer.
