Because it's Apple. They probably didn't want to try and fit a 1600 display on a 12" screen.

Here's the problem: people would like to get full functionality out of it today, not in two years. The laptop alone is already expensive enough. For those that don't already have WiDi, or wireless USB hubs, or wireless NAS, that's just more money to spend in order to fully use this device.

Possibly. I read that Apple also reworked the I/O on that single port so it wouldn't surprise me at all if there was some kind of encryption chip required to get anything other than USB mass storage out of it.

That's what most of us are saying in that they made absolutely no concessions to the current crop of tech. And really, I think calling it "ahead of its time" is a stretch. I'm left to conclude that this thing is meant for the most sheeple of iSheep: those that have money to burn and simply want the latest, sleekest, thinnest Apple whatsit. Anyone with a modicum of tech knowledge and even moderate computing needs will steer clear of this.

I know laptop manufacturers are sacrificing everything to get the smallest, lightest, paper-thin chassis - from disk drives to VGA, and now usb ports. This is even further to sacrificing the power adapter - or a usb, your choice. and core m processors are no great thing either, the performance is acceptable for many users, but not for all.

A lack of USB ports but no wireless charging, so not quite next-gen.
...And if you tolerate this then your charger will be next... (I happened to be listening to the Manics at the time)
