I suspect this is an issue prior to Mac Pro. This happens on my thunderbolt SATA drives on my Mac Studio as well, and more commonly on USB 3.0 hard drives.

That's what I was going to say -- it's been a problem for awhile. Only it was with external drives over thunderbolt or USB.
