CPU: i7 3770
GPU: AMD RX 460
Ram: 8GB DDR3
OS: Windows 10 64bit
PSU: Corsair CX600 (600w)

Have tried using DDU to reinstall drivers. Seemed to work for a few days until tonight. Been playing the same game all day, and then out of nowhere the game would go black while the audio still played. I get this error too in Heroes of the Storm if I try to lower certain graphic settings.

Maybe it's because it's an XFX brand. The thing came factory overclocked but it's a weak card so I'd rather not make it weaker if I can help it by underclocking.

Here's the link to the card http://xfxforce.com/en-us/products/amd-radeon-rx-400-series/rx-460-2gb-sf-rx-460p2sfg5
Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/XFX-1220MHz-Displayport-Graphics-RX-460P2SFG5/dp/B01JGQU8WI/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1472190645&sr=1-3&keywords=rx+460

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also set power limiter in AMD's wattman to 20% thinking maybe it wasn't getting enough power.

May be worth noting that my old 7870 died a couple months ago after getting display driver crashes about once a month. I doubt it's a hardware problem but you never know.

Just want to mention that this happens in a lot of games but here's a strange thing that happened to me. I was playing Heroes of the Storm and I turned down Terrain and Shader qualty. My game crashed half way through the next game. I changed them back to Ultra and my game never crashed again. So apparently lowering my settings or certain settings make the game crash.

Has anyone heard of this strange behavior before?

So, I've been playing with this card for a week now.. a Gigabyte Windforce OC RX 460 4GB. Very random problems. I can't for the life of me pin it down to a single thing. Specs first,
Core i5-2500 (non-k ) @ 3.3GHz
standard DELL motherboard with PCI-E 2.0 slot
2x 4GB DDR3-1333
Samsung EVO 750 256GB
Windows 10 x64
bought this old Dell OptiPlex 990 off of ebay for a song and put the SSD and RX 460 in it, as well as upgraded the ridiculous PSU to a 500W unit.
When computer's running the display off of Intel HD graphics, no problems. With the RX 460 in it, no problems, until I install
the Crimson driver suite, of course.
The Windows I use is a clean install with latest updates (Windows 10 1607 Anniversary Edition).

TONS of "display driver has stopped responding, Windows successfully recovered" messages, with accompanying black screen when driver re-initializes frame buffer.
Radeon Settings would crash frequently, but randomly. Often, I also see the "application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware"
Crimson suite 16.9.1 hotfix seems to do best of all versions I tried (you can't install any display driver before 16.8.1 - this also means we do not have a WHQL certified driver that includes Polaris PRO and Polaris 11 support).
I tried everything - limit GPU clock to 1000 MHz, Power limit to -20, override auto fan setting to custom fan curve. I tried 4 Crimson suite versions (I'd be sure to remove with DDU before trying a different one). I am kind of at my wits end here too - because the problems are so random, and I can go hours without any incident, too. And then, I get them in spades. It tends to happen after wake-up from sleep or after hours of having been on and running. The thing with the display freezing/going black while audio is still playing, I had that happen once too.
Windows 7 x64 has the same issues, but it is more severe, Radeon Settings was completely useless (immediately hangs when called up)

My guess would be that it is both driver related (I know that Radeon Settings crashes are pretty widespread amongst Radeon users) but I am thinking that it's either 1) this particular card is defective in some way or 2) it simply doesn't like this old Dell Motherboard, essentially an office or business computer. SO I have initiated RMA with Newegg for EXCHANGE (not refund) because I really like the card for what it is. If the replacement behaves the same then at least I know that the problems aren't because of the card.

As of right now (while writing this), I have had no problems since I turned the computer on 2 hours ago... I took the RX 460 out, blew all the dust out of the case (and PCI-E slot) with compressed air. Then I turned it back on, removed all AMD drivers and reverted to 16.9.1 Hotfix. Been going strong since I did that, now 2 hours ago... I even ran FurMark for 20 minutes while dinking around in WattMan and changing some settings... no problems.. Then I played two sessions of Killing Floor 2, also no problems.
I will keep this thread posted as things develop.. Wish me luck..

You can't prevent Microsoft from ruining your gaming experience but you can avoid getting this error by updating your graphics drivers, I am pretty sure you tried that... it helped me but not everyone!

Run games as administrator, steam too, run the games on compatibility mode, steam too! Maybe you tried that?

<Watch your language in these forums> (now I am being watched?)

reverted to 16.7.3 minimal edition (as per autodetect utility in AMD's driver download section) and system is stable, BUT
1) performance is not as high/smooth as with the latest hotfix and 2) No Radeon Settings/WattMan (but MSI Afterburner is a decent replacement anyway).
