Hello, i have a USB 2.4 GHz wifi adapter, and i was wondering, is it possible to switch out the 2.4 GHz antenna for a 5ghz one? Thanks for any help.

Solution

Why would you want to mismatch the antenna to the radio transmitter on your WiFi adapter? If the 5 GHz antenna's impedance is mismatched to the 2.4 GHz radio's expected impedance it can cause high SWR (Standing Wave Reflected) that can damage the WiFi adapter's radio transmitter circuit.
An antenna is an antenna, there is no difference regarding the frequency band. Dual band units don't use a different antenna for once band than they do for the other, it's all the same, so you can't change the antenna and have a magically different frequency. The unit is either capable of a specific band and frequency, or it's not.
