Hello,

first time posting on here and I'm building a PC for the first time. I have an Apple ATI Radeon HD 5770 GPU (https://www.cnet.com/products/ati-radeon-hd-5770-graphics-card-radeon-hd-5770-1-gb/specs/) and I'm wondering if it'll work on a Windows build. Probably a dumb question but I just don't know...

Also because this is my first build, I'd be open to suggestions on my current build.

I have a few questions...do I need a larger PSU? Also if the HD 5770 won't work with windows I was considering a GTX 560. I know this is fairly old but I'm a broke college student so I'm doing what I can. Any recommendations for this build?

I plan on getting any GPU I use second hand because I can't afford a new one, but are there any considerations I need to take into account? Also any tips for a new builder would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

It wont work for a windows build. Apple has them custom done for their systems. They are flashed with their own proprietary ROM that looks to see if it's installed in Apple hardware.
What is your actual budget for the build? The 560 is really old. I just picked up a Zotac 960 GTX for like $179 Canadian for a customer's "El Cheapo" build. That's what he called it.

I'd like to spend less that $50 for a used card. I've also looked at a GTX 295. It's old GPUs but I really only play free to play games (Planetside 2, Heroes and Generals, ect) and I won't be using it very often. It's a hobby right now so I'm not looking to have the best or even close to that haha.

But I was looking and will I need a PSU >500W for the GTX 560 or GTX 295?

That power supply you listed isn't very good, but it should do fine for you. If you are able to, I'd spend a bit more money on the PS especially if you want one of those power hungry cards.

Okay. Do you mean just larger PS or better quality? Do you know an GPUs in that range that are less power sucking?

Also sorry for these intro level qns.

I hope you are not planning on buying that 5 year old tech "new." You can spend $125 on a used i5 pc that is just as old and outperforms it in games. That'll leave much more budget for a gpu+psu upgrade for them. For $50 though, usually that's 560ti at least which is a bit better than a 560.

Nah I'm buying everything second hand. The games I wanna play aren't new so I'm not looking for new tech. Thanks for the fast replies.

If you have an Apple ATI Radeon HD 5770 that's just sitting around not being used, you might potentially be able to make around $100 selling it on someplace like eBay, since it looks like those sell for significantly more than the regular version of that card. That money could then be used for a newer card that's faster and more energy efficient, like a current-generation AMD RX 460 or GTX 1050, which are around $100 new. Or if you really want a used card, you could probably find something like a GTX 750 Ti for around $70 or so, which would still be a lot more energy efficient than those older cards.
