From the bench scores I have seen the Nvidia's 6800 GT comes so close to ATI's XT and at such a lower cost. Am I wrong does ATI's x800 XT easliy stand up to the 6800 GT? It just seems that there is no reseon to go with either ATI card x800 pro/XT because for the same price you get the GT and it is better than the pro and for less you get a damn near equivlent as the XT. How could ATI let this happen there only choice now is to lower the price on their x800 models. Bah but what do I know the only video card I ever owned was a matrox.

Exactly what do you know? ATI has already made millions with their retail launch of X800Pro, The scores are too close, Let me put it this way, the X800Pro is very similar performance to the Geforce 6800Ultra. You know why? because the X800pro/XT and 6800GT/Ultra performs very similarily, now I like Nvidia's honesty allowing disable of optimizations in the bios, ATI should definently do the same thing in the next drivers, otherwise, Nvidia's honesty and PS3.0 is gonna win me.

Ya but the price is where it is at. The GT is so much cheaper than the XT for similiar performace. I dunno right now the GT would cost me ~$550 cnd the XT would be ~$750 cnd. thats a 200 dollar diffrence and has sealed the deal for me so far (Unless you ATI ppl can show me why it would be better to go with an XT or Pro). $200 is a lot of money personally I believe the fact that I am spending close to 600 on a graphic card is pretty sad spending 800 is even sadder.
PS: Don't let the ATI ppl stomp all over you Nvidia fans show that the GT is the best for performance and cost. Or maybe you can't.

I have nothing against Nvidia, in fact only 2 cards i've owned are ATI, and i'm currently on a FX5900, since at the time the price/performance ratio was much much better than the 9800pro.
I'm just gonna reserve my judgement until the 6800GT ACTUALLY HITS THE retail channels. And yes the paperlaunch did piss me off too.
ATI aren't stupid, in fact they've screwed over Nvidia with their R300 design, they didn't put any effort into the making of the R420, on the other hand Nvidia had to go all out on the NV40 lineup. Since ATI has already made a LOT of money with the X800Pro, i don't think they'll mind lowering the price of it by about 50US. Place itself between the 6800nu and GT.

wouldn't say they were fools, they weren't expecting it. From the fx line the gf 6 line dx perfromance went through the roof. They knew there was going to be an improvement but not this much of an improvement in such a fast time. Also don't forget AF for nV cards also works on shaders with 3.0 support.
ATi won't have this. Just another place for better looking games. The Af performance difference really isn't much. Depending on the game it varies greatly though. Only in Tomb Raider and Far Cry does the GT fall behind, both are shader intesive games, so there is a little of concern there.
Seems like gpu bandwidth seems to hurting the nV while using pixel or vertex shaders, this too might be a driver issue since it really doesn't add up :/

Granted I only saw one review but it showed this card very close to the x800 XT. It is also a lot cheaper. Well I guess if Nvidia put it out at the same time as ATI put out there x800 it would be a diffrent story. Almost everyone would buy the GT because of its 16 pipelines rather than a x800 Pro with only 12 pipelines. So I guess Nvidia are the fools. Oh well.

ATI is constantly holding back technology in order to maintain the race. They had a clear lead with the 9700 and could have maintained that HUGE lead with the 9800 simply by dropping it to .13 microns, which was their original plan, but they didn't, because they didn't think they needed to. They didn't release the R400 but instead gave us the 9700 Pro Revision 3 (9800XT) simply because they didn't NEED to release the R400. The developed PS3 support for their latest hardware but didn't impliment it because they didn't think they NEEDED to. It's like being in a class full of retards and not even trying to learn anything because you know you're being graded on a curve.

Well its exactly like what happened with the 9700 series vs the gf 4 series. ATi got first dibs on the new dx then, and now nV got it. Thats one of the main reason's why the gf 6 line dx performance is so good. ATi has to do a maricle on both Ogl and Dx now to keep up with nV. nV still has to start using Low-k.
With all things in the past Microsoft seems to playing both sides with ATi and nV. Makes a better and cheaper products for thier console.

ATI didn't get first dibs on anything, they were smarter than NV. ATI worked with MS and designed the R300 to the DX9 spec. NVidia worked on their own API, CG, and didn't think that they needed MS. So while it may be argued that NV had more powerful hardware, it was no where near as efficient as ATI's board.
