Are crossfire and sli compatible for only 1 graphics card?

I'm planning on building a budget gaming pc for a friend and I found some killer deals on craigslist. Now I know you can't use 2 crossfire cards in an sli motherboard, but does it matter if I'm only using 1 card. I know this is a dumb question but just wanted to make sure.

You can use any card you want as long as you only use one card.

SLI and CFX (crossfireX) only matter when you are handling 2 cards, so 1 shouldn't make any difference. anyway, most SLI certified motherboard can also do crossfire, what motherboard do you have?

I'm planning on using an evga 750 sli ftw mother board with an ASUS AMD HD 7859 2gb graphics card.
