Are gaming laptops worth it?

To make this as short and sweet as possible. I’m not home all that often, due to working like crazy all the time. However sometimes I get some downtime at work where I can do virtually whatever I want. I want to buy a gaming laptop to bring with me, but is it worth it? I can’t fathom spending close to the same amount on a desktop when I wouldn’t be home all that much to use it. The only problem is I play a lot of online multiplayer games (fortnite, pubg, cod, etc). What’s the best way to play these games without being hardwired like I am at home? Is the ping from my phone if I tether it going to be too bad to use? Any other options on connecting to WiFi playing these games without too much latency while not being hardwired? Money not so much an issue if I have to upgrade my phone plan. Just trying my best to learn here

Thank you!

Personally I don't think so, Id rather buy a gamin PC then have a separate daily use laptop. Gaming laptops generally have awful battery life, are loud, heavy and some are massive in size. Yes with thunderbolt and external GPUs its possible to upgrade them but the external enclosures are expensive, and impractically to carry around.
