Question Are IO panels durable?

My cat was going crazy and run and completely took out a thunderbolt plug from the side. But inside the port the adapter or small end of the thunderbolt plug in was inside the port of the MB. I got pliers and carefully pulled that part out but the cable was done for. There seems to be no damage yet... and that thunderbolt port still works i tested it with other cables to make sure. Could this have damaged anything or cause problems down the road?
