Are mouse pads important in competitive gaming?

So far I have a Logitech G502, I tried the TE Lancehead that's supposedly better but it cost much more so I switched. For my headset I'm using the razer kraken 7.1 classic, which is much better than my old stereo headset, but I never experienced true 7.1 yet. For keyboard I am just using whats on my Asus laptop.

The cheapest part of my set up is my $10 mouse pad, and I'm curious if getting a more expensive one like the Logitech will improve my aim. My biggest reason for getting a new mousepad is that I want to start arm aiming instead of using my wrist for all my movements. So I'll need a much bigger pad.

I wouldn't say the quality of a mouse pad wouldn't really make you better but if you have got a small mouse pad like a something like 200mm by 200mm/8 by 8 inch I would say you'd like to have a bigger one.

I'd say get something like 350mm+ by 290mm+/about 13+ inches by 12+ Inches or if you'd like a extended mouse pad you could go for that too. I've got a 350mm/290mm mouse pad and it feels much better than my old 230mm/150mm mouse pad
For the most part, mouse pads make SOME difference in competitive gaming, but only at the very highest level. You can get away with using a $10 mouse pad until you start playing in tournaments where having that slight edge will actually matter.

A newer and bigger mouse pad will feel a little better and might help with aim a little, but not enough that I would rush out and buy an expensive mouse pad.

Just about every pro gamer I watch uses a huge mouse pad. I'd say go ahead and get one to start getting used to it. If you wait it's just going to be that much longer that you're not practicing like the pros.
