CPU: Intel core i-6500
MOBO: ASUS H170 pro gaming
video card: XFX Radeon R9 380X 4GB
memory: Corsair vengeance LPX dual channel pair 2133 2x4gb
hard drive: Western digital black
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO
Optical drive: samsung SH-224FB 24X DVD burner
power supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GS 80+ gold
keyboard: corsair strafe RGB MX silent
case: none picked yet

Thank you for your help! Do I need a cpu cooler? I was adding components to my cart at the site you recommended, part picker and looked at the reviews for my MOBO: it said the BIOS is not very good. That doesn't sound good. Is there another MOBO you can suggest that will work with my other components. It gets so confusing!

You will only need a CPU cooler if your CPU ends with a "K" (meaning it's capable of overclocking). Thus, your i5-6500 will not need a CPU cooler.

the g1 series are thrash
the g2 series are indeed ebtter than the gs series but gs series are still an excellent pick and it was far cheaper than the g2 series in my country.

so if its 20 dollars or 10 dollars cheaper than the g2 pick the gs, i own the 650gs personally and im very ahppy with it.
