I just bought a MSI z77a-g45 thunderbolt mobo after reading several good reviews about it. I am planning to buy a newer graphics card(GTX 770) but right now dont have the money to dish out so I want to use my old SLI cards(e-GeForce 8600GTS, 128mb[P/N: 256-P2-N761-FR]) but the only website ive found (http://www.pc-specs.com/mobo/MSI/MSI_Z77A-G45/987/Compatible_GPUs) states that only the 512mb version of the 8600gts GPU is compatible. There is no follow up about why that is or even if they tested the 128mb card. I went to the MSI website but they only show specs for the CPU.

My question is not only if the 128mb version of these cards is compatible, but also whether I should worry about trying it out? Should I worry about any malfunctions/ problems trying it out.

Note: I am using an I5 3750 CPU w/ this mobo. Thank you in advance, any comments are helpful.

No, to know if your gpu is compatible your motherboard must have a x16 pcie port because it is like the standart for gpu cards. The chipset is irrelevant. It is only important if your gpu is pcie 3.0, because if your chipset doesn't support it, you won't have the enough bandwidth but only in very powerful cards. But don't worry, your motherboard has the lastest version of pcie, it is pcie 3.0 and it has enough space for 2 gpus.
Thanks Rafayo you sound like.you know what your talking about, i'll try these cards out and see if t works fine. If anyone has anything else (like specifics?) please feel free to add.
