I have been considering to upgrade to a rtx 2080 and don't know if my specs are good enough. I dont know anything about computers.

CPU- Intel core i7 7700k
MB- ASRock z170 pro4
PS- 650 watt

I can upgrade my power supply if this is not compatible
Thanks

At 1080p even at 180Hz I’d say the 2080Ti is way over the top. Also in most games you will be limited by your cpu, a 7700k is not going to keep up with that gpu at 1080p. I’d expect even a 9900k might be the limiting factor at 1080p in some games.

I’d also consider a psu upgrade with any gpu upgrade. I definitely wouldn’t run a 2080Ti on anything less than a top quality psu.

Would you think a rtx 2070 would be good?

Yes. At 1080p a 2070 would be a great choice, even a 2060 does very well, just lookup some reviews.

However there are games that your cpu may stop you from hitting 144fps regardless of gpu. You would still get over 100fps. I am thinking of the very cpu heavy modern AAA games like BF1, BF V, Assaains Creed but there are others. The 7700k performs very close to a i5 8600k so again look up some reviews of your games.

last question would a intel core i7 8700k and a 750w g3 psu and a 1440p monitor be good for a 2080?

I just realized the motherboard i have is a 7th gen motherboard and the 8700k is 8th gen. So i guess i would have to upgrade my motherboard to. rip my wallet.

Yes, sorry assumed you were aware. However at 144Hz your 7700k will do a good job, it’s going to hit over 100fps but in some games you won’t reach 144fps. Personally I’d pick up a 1440p high Hz with G-Sync/Freesync approved by NVidia and keep your cpu.
