Hi everyone!

I just upgraded to a 6700K (not OC'ed yet) with a hyper212 EVO and arctic silver thermal paste. I Cleaned my fans and everything since I was in there already and now idling its around 36C and under prime95 it got up to 78 before I stopped it. Are these temps normal?

That'll work.

side note: The 212 is shipped with two additional brackets so the user can affix a second fan...

Yes. Those are normal temps for a room that's about 75F. Okay, not that specific but those are normal. How long was Prime 95 running? My 4690 got up to 79C with Prime running for about 15 minutes. Then I tried to push it. Intel Burn Test on maximum, Splaying spec Ops: The line(full screen while the test RAN), 3 browsers and a movie was playing on mute. I needed to be certain my CPU was stable.

It passed with style. I also use the 212. And I used Arctic Silver 5 too. Some people are happy with warmer temps.

Normal for your GFX card to run in the mid 80's at full load. Change your fan curve.

No it isn't.

My 1080p TV broke yesterday. Using an OLD CRT now. But anyways I think my temps may be too cool.

in the best way possible😀

Ah ok thanks! Whew I was worried. I let it run for about 20-30 minutes. Also Im pretty sure its my heatsink fan, but when it really gets going I notice a sort of grinding sound. It isn't consistent but sort of sounds like a hard drive.

The cardboard roll inside a paper towel can be used to pinpoint where the sound is originating from. I might chuckle a bit when you use your diagnostic stethoscope but the tool will get the job done.

Those links are a couple stop off points where you can see what oil can do for a fan.

The fan of course can be simply replaced.

Seeing as how you JUST installed that the fan should be fairly quiet. Odd. I have a high performance fan for the exhaust(case exhaust. the stock fan is affixed to the Evo) and 4 other case fans and when I turn those off my GFX card is the only noise maker. Should I reduce my custom fan curve it's(my 212's fan) nearly silent at a couple feet. Silent with me 5 feet from it.

Thanks for all the replies guys! Ive had the heatsink for a year and just swapped out my old processor for a 6700K and cleaned the fan (which may have been the cause). Its still making that grinding noise when it revs up to higher speeds then idle and every once and awhile while it idles. I was wondering could I replace it with this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7RD3BT6145&cm_re=fan-_-35-608-004-_-Product ? Im not 100% but I think its a 120mm fan in a mounting bracket so theoretically I could just swap the bracket out and onto this one right?

That'll work.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181026&cm_re=120mm_high_static_fan-_-35-181-026-_-Product may be more appropriate. That is a high static fan designed to be used with a radiator.

http://www.cmstore-usa.com/hyper-212-evo-120mm-fan-oem-package/ is designed for the Evo.
