It is all in the mouse stupids, duh.

Laser Mouse, allowing you to aim 5 times as quick and 10 times more accurately.

Gamepads and motion controls are casual kiddy toys, laser mice is a weapon of destruction!

"Exactly what I was thinking. When I buy a game for 360/PS3 I know for sure that there will be atleast 10-20,000 people with the game, and that's not even for a triple A title. Triple A titles get into the millions.

Then I buy the same game for PC and I get 2-300 people. lol, what a joke."

I'm pretty sure there are a lot more than "2-300" people playing, say, Team Fortress 2.

Games that can be bought on either a console or PC, though, can suffer if people who own both tend to buy the console version. For instance, I'm pretty sure that COD:MW2 sold a *lot* better on the consoles than the PC -- in part because of a lack of dedicated server support on the PC side. That's probably one of the worst recent cases, though.

Thank you so much for creating this article.

This is so, so very true. With mouse and keyboard, I personally would own any player using a controller in games like Halo, Unreal Tournament, the Quakes, any FPS really.
I have always felt it is ignorant that the FPS genre started a push towards consoles and now sacrifices time and quality on every big title to cater to console needs and limitations. Meanwhile, at a fundamental level, console gamers do not understand or appreciate the core mechanic behind the entire FPS genre - the potency, versatility, and natural feel of the mouse+keyboard combo. Nor do they appreciate other aspects of the deeper FPS experience, like the fact that you have to create and render all dimensions of the world not just the floor and walls (for example), and that FPS games were never intended to feel like coin operated arcade games.

Only a moron doesn't know this already. The console if for 'socializing' which isnt WoW. Most console players also don't smell like an old dorito's bag either. So if you don;t know why most people don;t want to lock themselves away in a smelly basement playing WoW, maybe you're the one who doesn;t get it.

This is why I've always wanted to ability to play console players on my PC. Even with their auto-aim advantage, this would put their 'skillz' in proper perspective...

[citation][nom]tapnick[/nom]I dont think every game should be cross platform but it would fun for a few of them to at least have the option.[/citation]
Yes,Like anything not an FPS =P

[citation][nom]excalibur1814[/nom]It's also down to how good the player is[/citation]

and to answer the skill levels were...

they brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers at the same game...

so it seems skill level doesn't matter too much... unless it's the worlds best console gamers vs the worlds worst pc gamers...

[citation][nom]G00fySmiley[/nom]yea, i played a lan a few months back where a few guys were using xbox 360 ocntrolers on thier pc's cause "We're better at consoles than on pc's" ... it worked out about the same i think it'd be great for xbox live to work with pc games though, could open up revenue for microsoft in mroe xbox live subscriptions and in turn it could result in less hacking in pc gaming durring online play; now i'm not sayign only allow it via live, just an option and merging players would make for some interesting chatter... you could tell the xbox users by the slew of F bombs and thier voices periodically cracking due to having just hit puberty... you could tell the pc gamers by looking at leaderboards[/citation]
Xbox Live is in many games. Only difference, you don't have to pay for a subscription. I use the same profile for my PC and Xbox.

Wasn't Lost Planet supposed to be one of the first cross platform games? And they have tested this before on THG a while ago with 360 controllers and Halo 2. Mouse + Keyboard always beats controller.

I wouldn't mind playing consolers just to piss em off.

Imagine pro PC players from L4D going up against console L4D gamers. I could imagine the rage quits.

I still want them too do it. just so I can show all those console gamers how much better I'm doing. =/ They always act so high and mighty. I never do... I just get upset after a certain point.

I think people are mistaking what is actually being said here, which is FPS with a mouse and keyboard is much EASIER to play than with a controller. That doesn't mean PC is better than consoles in general or that the gamers are better. I know a bunch of guys that tactically would destroy 95% of PC or console gamers in any FPS, but if you gave them all controllers and the other team keyboard/mouse it wouldn't be fair. PC exclusive gamers are just as bad if not worse than other fanboys, if you love to game then you own consoles and PC, nuff said.

i have seen xbox mw2 videos on youtube, and you can clearly see how bad xbox players are. A regular mw2 pc gamer would destroy the best of the xbox players.

The reason that mediocre PC gamers can beat the best console gamers is because the mouse interface uses the reflex involving spatial orientation.

For a console controller, there's just up down left right (in varying intensities, of course).

But for someone on a mouse, they are not thinking strictly in terms of up down left and right. When the mouse moves, the body knows how far the hand is moving, because of the position of the body, arm and hand.

Someone who can use a reflex to help control a game experience that relies on rapid, tuned responses will be at a huge advantage.

and of course, PCs are better than consoles. :)

Has everyone forgotten about shadowrun? It was an FPS which allowed PC and Xbox360 gamers to play against each other on the same server. It wasn't the best game to play with a mouse and keyboard though, as the controls were purposely designed to have a 'lag' type effect, where you had to hold down a movement key for a certain period before your character would respond. But it was nonetheless an oppurtunity to pwn some console n00bs. 😉

Cross platforming and porting a game from console to pc is a reason that pc games are consistently getting worse and worse with every release. 2 years ago I started a quest to build a pc that would play crysis and it seems that I realized that goal within the last year but now there are few games that challenge a pc as much as crysis did. I look forward to the day that Pc games are not mentioned in the same sentence as console and developers start making games to really utilize the power of our gaming rigs, not some 4-5 year old console that everyone thinks is soo leet but is really just a really outdated pc in a shiny little box with either a sony or microsoft logo on it.

Well, I've played some of the best people in Halo for PC and Halo for xbox and yeah there's not THAT much difference, mouse does help but I think it only helps in two cases: Mouse/Keyboard pros would have a slight advantage over controller pros, slightly more accurate aim, and the noobs using mouse keyboard would have an advantage over the controller noobs, since controller is extremely hard to learn at the start. That's why most PC gamers despise the controller, they can't use it at all. I think any players in the middle would be evenly matched because if you're not good enough to be more than an average player at a game then a mouse isn't going to help you be that much better.

Maybe it's safe to say that console gamers are better than pc gamers because using a controller is harder and takes more skill to be good at it with =P

Console gamers have auto aim assists in FPS's, whether it is explicit or not, it is still there. Most people who play consoles, but never touched PC gaming, think they they can "pwn" anyone until they get their hands on a mouse and keyboard. When it comes to that, they freak out and blame someone for hacking, or they just say PC gaming sucks. Sorry guys, PC just has had the precision advantage since the mouse/keyboard combo came into play.

Are PC Gamers Too Good for Console Gamers? No, they are just too cheap and win they can't win, they blame it on the controller. It's been happening for ages and it'll never stop. But don't worry. pretty soon, thanks to piracy that all PC gamers claim to not do, the only games left will be MMO's. Nice job people.
