Are SSD really necessary for gaming

No... For your boot drive, I'd say Yes

SSD's are not necessary but if you want games to load faster then you want an SSD.

Is it necessary? No.
Does it make the whole system run and feel faster? Yes.

Specifically, for games...your level load times will decrease. Maybe a LOT.
FPS change? Not so much.
But if you can be first (or at least not last) into a new level...all the better for you.

Not necessary, but they are incredibly fast compared to a 7200. Putting Windows and games on a SSD will show incredible performance gains on load times and file transfers. As mentioned previously, it doesn't help graphics.
