Well, I'm building my first gaming PC. (Keep in mind I have not bought anything yet.) I would like to know if you guys could help me find any parts that are better for a price the same or less. Thanks in advance.

Power Supply- EVGA 500 Watt Power Supply
Hard Drive- WD Blue 1 TB Hard Drive
RAM- 2 sticks of Crucial Ballistix 4 GB ram
Processor- AMD FX-6300 6- Core Processor
Disk Drive- Lite-On 24X Internal DVD+/-RW
Motherboard-Gigabyte AM3+ AMD 970 Motherboard
Case- BitFenix Comrade
Monitor- Asus VS229H-P 21.5" LED Monitor
Graphics Card- Sapphire Radeon R9 270X

I currently have An Asus NoteBook Laptop so I have all the other accesories. In total the cost is $708. Planning to use it for gaming most things on high or med settings, thanks.

Solution
there will be a 30-50% fps improvement in most titles You could go for an i3 4160 and an r9 290, that will perform better in the majority of games over an i5 and a 280x
It's $20 extra, but much much better.

This is better than James build.

It had dual channel memory

A better GPU

A much better case

A much better PSU

a better optical drive

and an ips monitor

A combination of the two would best, but it requires mail-in rebates, which can take months to actually get your money back, and change the initial purchase price. I normally have them turned off because you can't spend money you don't have even if you're getting a rebate.

well the monitor you picked is TN and the case you picked is definitely not as good and saving a few bucks is just not worth it It doesn't even have an intake fan with it.

i also changed the PSU and GPU in my build.

not really but it is good to overestimate due to power spikes and this is a quality PSU, This build with a 290 will consume an average of about 340 - 380 watts on maximum possible load.

what config have you decided to purchase?
