Im looking for a new headset since my previous broke. Im thinking about getting the razer kraken pro and install the razer surround software to get virtual 7.1 surround (I was a bit sceptical about the software but ive heard positive things about it). Is this a good idea? If you have used the kraken pros... please tell me how they are.

Suggestions about other headsets with the same price tag are welcome :)

BTW... I suspect i have a "regualar" non fancy soundcard. Does the sound card matter if i use the razer kraken pro with razer surround?

My Razer Kraken is very comfortable and the sound quality is reasonable for the money. The microphone that comes with the Pro is more than what you need for Skype, Teamspeak and VoIP, but if you plan to record, say, YouTube, I'd go with an external desktop microphone, such as the Blue Snowball. However, I have found it the case that downloading Razer Surround was a waste of time in my case. Don't get me wrong, it's interesting and free, but I found no such advantage playing Counter Strike: Source with Razer Surround. It is nothing compared to the surround sound, of, say the Megaloson. If you want good sounding surround from a Razer product, get the Megalodon or the newly-released Kraken 7.1. Or, splash out and get the Tiamat, which offers 'true 7.1.'

Also, I have found that a better sound card would give better performance Razer Surround. If you aren't paying for a $100/£75 souncard, Razer Surround isn't worth your while, although using normal Stereo with the Kraken would sound fine with anything.
