Are there any quad core Socket 478 cpus?

Upgrading cpu in an old computer, wondering if there's a quad core on Socket 478

No there isn't. Socket 478 only supports single core Pentium 4 based CPUs released from around 2002 to 2004. After than Intel moved to the LGA 775 socket which featured their first dual core CPU with the Pentium D (two Pentium 4s glued together basically) and their first quad core CPU, the Core 2 Quad Q6600.

Socket 478 is completely obsolete at this point, there isn't much upgradeability in it, no CPU available for that socket will do well in any modern tasks.

There are two different Socket 478s, the desktop version and the mobile version. Desktop Socket 478 only supports single core Pentium 4 based CPUs. Mobile Socket 478 was for the early laptop Core 2 Duos and those are the dual cores you see for Socket 478. Mobile Socket 478 chips do not fit into desktop Socket 478 motherboards, the pins are spaced out differently.

I was talking about the mobile version, actually. I didn't know there were two.

It looks like there are a couple of mobile quad cores that will fit in the socket like the Core 2 Quad Q9000, but while it might fit, it may not work if your motherboard's chipset and BIOS doesn't support it. You'd probably have to look through the documentation for the laptop or contact the laptop manufacturer to see what CPUs your motherboard supports.
