Hi,

I really have 2 questions, but 1 in particular because I THINK I have this issue pegged down to my rather old pci-e cables. I don't think it could be the PSU itself because its working fine, as far as I can tell. 2 reasons I think it is the cables is because my PC kept just turning off during certain things (trying to watch netflix or youtube, any gaming or just certain other programs that aren't graphic intense at all.)

I could boot it up with no problem, and I ran like 4 4k movies at once, didnt have any trouble, just random shutoffs. At first, before I even opened my case and tightened the cables and even switched cables to different ports on the GPU, I could just BARELY touch the one of the cables (I had the sides of my case off) and then restart the case and it would boot up, everything was fine until I did one of those random things or it just randomly shut off or rebooted.)

So I finally reconfigured the cables and did a clean reinstall of my gpu drivers, and it's working, I can game, play netflix, youtube, all those problems are gone, but it just randomly shuts off or reboots itself. I reset the UEFI completely, no overclock, No problem with anything else that I can tell. It seems stable and has been all day today but last night it randomly shut off even after I made sure the cables were reconnected.

Of course that is the reason I think it is the cable(s), but it seemed to be only one cable that would malfunction, since I could barely touch it and it would reboot right away.

Sorry for the long post, but my first question is in the header, about if I can buy generic pci-e cables and if so, what kind, just to make sure? Also, I am having trouble finding cables JUST for the corsair HW1000 that I have. My second question is, do you guys agree that my problem is the pci-e cables after what I just wrote? I am pretty convinced it is, because like I said, just barely touching one before would let it boot up, but until I did some rewiring it works fine, and will for hours, but last night it just randomly cut off, so I'd rather just buy new cables than take it to a computer shop and pay 400$ just for them to find the same issue. I've built several pcs for my friends and they all did fine, and i've been building my own gaming pc's for years now. Just need a little help from you more experienced and smart people out there :) Thank you so much for anyone who can help, I apologize again for the long post, this issue has been driving me crazy!

I just posted some pics above there. It's of the bottom but the top is just a standard ATX case, the glass is off right now so there's really nothing extra to see. It shows GPU, PSU, SSD's, the PSU Cage, the other side has no cage , you can see the PSU under the SSDs and cables. 3 fans in front, one on top 1 on back, pretty standard.

I can post some more in a second so you can get a better view.

She's naked without her glass so she was a bit shy but I got these pics anyway 😀

Sorry bout these imgbam pics being crooked, idk whats up with that but i know its the only site i can upload at without them trying to make me turn my adblocker off or sign up or something. You can probably rotate them or something, if you need them turned up straight, what's a good site that won't ask me for anything or sign up, etc? Anyway you can see it and get a good idea from those, thanks again man.

Oh yeah, one side you cant see cause its got protection on the side so it wont fall off the PC cart. Thats the side with the GPU and CPU fan. That's the best pic I could get of them.

Yessir, got that message. I had already ordered one, but I just returned it because they hadn't shipped it thank god. I'm just looking for something nice that is 850w, I believe it was you who told me get ATX 3.0 as well..

Since I returned the other PSU, which PSU would you recommend for me that would work with my case? It's just a standard ATX case as you can see in the pics. I just need to hurry and order before this thing fries my RTX 3070 Ti or something else. What about that other RMe I think it was? Is that ATX 3.0? Would the age of my SSD even affect what PSU I can get? I just want to find something that is new and will work and not make my pc reboot and/or do crazy things. I even bought a new TV which I needed anyway, I swore it was the ports on the side because they were pretty worn out. But other than that i've got it in my guest room and it's not smart but its 4k. My bedroom TV is only 1920x1080, so that's out for gaming, but if it was this PSU the whole time...

I could have a bedroom tv that I can do almost everything I can in the living room (they share a wall and the PC cart is right against the bedroom back wall facing me so all I gotta do is switch HDMI plugs to the other TV and i'm good. Would suck to lose that money but would also be nice to move right to my bedroom and play games and watch movies, etc.

If you or anyone could reccomend me a PSU that works with my setup, I don't want old stuff if ATX 3.0 is the new thing out and would work with my GPU.. what PSU would you recommend? Like I said I prefer corsair, they have been very good to me and lasted the longest out of all my parts, but i'm not married to them. So if you were me, which PSU would you pick in the under 150$ range (us). I see this one, I think you recommended it actually, maybe a slightly different model :

Corsair RM850e (2023) Fully Modular Low-Noise ATX Power Supply - ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 Compliant - 105°C-Rated Capacitors - 80 Plus Gold Efficiency - Modern Standby Support - Black.

For a good deal right now. Would you go for that or what would you go for if you just had a standard case with a GTX 3070 Ti ? That's my question now, I already returned the shift sadly, I was looking forward to using it but was told it was probably incompatible so I cancelled the order on amazon just to be safe.

US. I already returned one PSU and bought the

Corsair RM850x (2021) Fully Modular ATX Power Supply - 80 PLUS Gold - Low-Noise Fan - Zero RPM - Black

I Imagine that one will work since it is compatible with most cases and compatible with my GPU. It may not be the greatest choice but it was on sale and I had to return one PSU already, so I just went with it before I fry my GPU, I just tried gaming and it shut off again randomly. I sincerely hope that one will do, as I have spent a lot of time not just on here, but testing and moving cables around, etc.

I do not know the exact model of my case but its about a 4 year corsair fully glass case that I posted several pics of the whole PC as well as the bottom of it due to the request of another user. Please don't tell me it's no good, even just trolling as I would probably jump off my roof. Thanks for replying :)

Yes, that will work and that is an excellent power supply.
Thank you my good man. You put some wind back in my sails making sure I didn't make another bad purchase. The bad news is that the shift actually showed up today (one day shipping, first on that one paying only 4,99$) . But unforuntely for the seller, as on time and ready to sell as they were, Since the package is sealed we still have all rights to return it thankfully.

That price can be offset by the 10$ less (about the same as the english pound, but I don't keep up with the euro since I think it may break due to Brexit. To the member that reccommended the shift first and the other PSU I ordered second, I hope you didn't know that it only worked with a very limited set of cases. I sent a ton of pics and still got no return answer.

You could have cost me 130$ US, whether by ignorance OR what YOU would get for yourself, which should have been mentioned. But since this a free site for anyone to post whatever, I cannot hold you responsible.

I suggest getting the info you finally got before a mod had to step in and stop me from a purchase I would be stuck with, THEN tell me to reconsider on that particular model instead of lionizing it. I made a serious purchase when another would have done me fine. Again, my fault for being so quick to hit that buy button, and you owe me nothing, but I appreciate the help you did give :) I am not one to hold grudges/hatred in my head/heart, for it's a waste of time, all humans make mistakes, and it only makes one miserable and bitter.

I do not mean to sound ungrateful to you here, just trying to help your future answers if you really want to improve at helping people (you did not do a bad job, just made a mistake, and I totally forgive you, not that you care,) Just so everyone is clear, I am not talking to the whole forum here, just the one individual that caused me a bit of problems, but no big deal! I can handle them easily thankfully.

I thank everyone trying to help! Even if I id have to post pics that were hard on me (I was recently injured and cannot bend down without intense pain after several surgeries. No hard feelings, i'm a laid back but blunt person, so I just wanted to add that tidbit to possibly held Sid with his future answers, but I still thank him and all of you for the awesome help!

Huh? I never recommended that you buy a "Shift" power supply. IF that is what you were trying to say. I simply said a quality unit, never said anything about that model at all. Hopefully in any case it all works out.

I can vouch for the Shift as I just bought one a couple of weeks ago. It is basically the same unit as the RMx (2021) that was recommended. The only difference is that it's a newer platform and the connectors are mounted on the side for use in larger cases. Otherwise that's about it.

The Shift is a newer version of the preexisting RMx unit. The only difference is you're getting side mounted connectors instead of the traditional front-mounted connectors. I probably should have made that clearer.
The Shift is the ATX3.0 unit in the RMx series with a totally different platform than the ATX2.4/2.52 units. A totally different platform means a totally different unit. Besides that the Shift has side mounted connectors and also the connectors are different. Micro -fit instead of Mini-Fit.

Yes, they are totally different units. Different platforms. Different modular boards. Different connectors. Different orientation. And completely different specifications version support. Besides which, it's kind of a moot point anyhow since the OP already said they purchased a regular RMx unit.
