Thermal paste is made of some medium like silicon grease (high temperature kind) and nano particles of metal or ceramics that has high heat conductivity , suspended in that grease. There are some additives to keep suspension, raise viscosity under heat etc.just curious

That is where the vaseline mix comes in. Gives you more than a couple days.It's an option. But definitely not for months.
Couple of days and it dries up and you have to replace it.
