are these good notebooks?

hi! my girlfriend is about to buy a new notebook and she choose these two:

the question is, are these good notebooks? she's going to do some graphic design and play some games. i'm a little scared of overheating too

They are alright for gaming and design but if I had a choice between one of these and a more powerful desktop build for the same price I would choose the desktop. The GT840M one is more powerful.

i thougth the same but she needs to go to college with it, i was wondering, are asus laptops good? the materials and the build is good?

HP and ASUS are quite good brands. Keep in mind that all laptops come from the same small group of bulk manufacturers and are all sort of the same, just with different brands.

it's about 800US$ our biggest problem is that in our country there's not much variety of laptops :/

A bit heavy to carry it around, don't you think? Look for a 15.6" model instead. HP, Asus, Dell or Toshiba, it doesn't matter. It's more or less all the same.

Have a look at something like the dell inspiron 15 inch 7000 series - http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FONI7YY . The slight caveat though is that it may not be available where you live.

I think the GT840m one should be OK - I have one at my disposal so I can run benchmarks if you want. You can also upgrade to an SSD and add more RAM if you need more performance in the future.
