Are these overclocks normal on my 980Ti?

Hey guys, so I'm rocking a 980Ti Hall of Fame that comes stock at 1190mhz core clock!
I was running heaven benchmark and i overclocked it just 30mhz bump (10 at a time) and it crashed, so i went back to 20mhz bump and it is fine! But after researching, I saw some people that got 1470mhz with other 980Ti's without even touching the voltages!

Does that make my card rubbish or did i lost the silicon lottery?

Or could it be that this card is tuned for voltage bumps to overclock as should?

You may need to bump the voltage a bit to get stable overclocks. The GTX 980ti should be able to overclock decadently since they are binned fairly well.

What is your boost clock during benchmark/gaming? The 1470Mhz your mentioning is the boost clocks. 1190 would be your core clock. My 980TI is overclocked to 1550Mhz and 8GB Memory. Likely your boosting to 1400+ with your overclock.

Maxwell cards are very dependent on temps, so when your overclocking keep an eye on temps and keep them as low as possible.

Oh yeah, you are right! My boost clock is 1311 but actual boost clock on GPU-Z sensor says 1424mhz :http://imgur.com/P1e1X34

I like EVGA Precision X16 because it has an overlay feature that sits in the top left corner of screen when gaming/benchmark. It also shows temps and clocks. Not sure if Afterburner has an overlay feature. However I usually run precision while I game and benchmark to keep an eye on these things.

What are your temps under load on your GPU? I see your temps around 45C but im sure thats at idle. Create a nice fan curve to keep your GPU temps as low as possible with the fan noise as tolerable as you can get them. Try your overclock again. If that doesnt work, give it a small bump of voltage and try again.

That's great to hear! I'm using Afterburner, but since I have another monitor installed, i throw there GPU-Z, fraps and realtemp to monitor my hardware and their temps! My top temp of GPU was 71oC with fan speed of 60% under full load! (Tested with Heaven and Valley Benchmark as well as Witcher 3 which was my most demanding game at 1080p 60hz Ultra with hairworks on!).

Do all these seem ok to move forward with voltage bumping?

thats good, I dont know how aggressive you want to go with your overclock. I have a Kingpin and its really sensitive to temperatures, its actually meant to be Watercooled or LN2 so I have my max temps at 58C with my fan curve to achieve the overclock I have now. Your temps are absolutely safe where they are, you could create a more aggressive fan curve to Lower them a little. Im not sure how big that will help, but if you adjust voltage you will notice a slight bump in temp. Try giving it a minimal bump in voltage and see if your able to achieve that additional 10Mhz.

Some cards just dont hit the same frequency as others, so I wouldnt worry about comparing with others. Your ASIC score isnt bad, its average. ASIC is just a number they say that speculates you can hit a higher frequency with less voltage. The higher the number the better. No guarantees though.

The reason I'm thinking of overclocking is because at 1080p i get around 75 frames in witcher 3. I ordered my 1440p 144hz G-sync monitor so I'm guessing I'll have around 30 fps drop from 1080p to 1440p? With that drop I'll lose a bit more FPS from the <recommended spot> which is at least 60 and I believe with a good overclocking i can reach that, therefore making all of my games playable at their best since witcher 3 was the most demanding one!

I would love to see that KingPin up close, it really is my dream card but it is just so expensive and rare where I'm living. I'm sure you have a remarkable experience with it, since EVGA is personally my most reliable company to buy components from!

I will probably create a custom curve if i see really high temps in order to maintain a stable temp as much as possible! Side question: What is the max safe temp for this GPU?
But I see some potential in overclocking this, as for instance I have a 150% Power Limit instead of 110% and an option of overclocking the core clock up to 1000Mhz, I'm guessing a high Core Voltage as well! (still didn't unlock it)!

Either way I'll let you know the outcome when my monitor arrives and push for that sweet 144hz experience!

Don't you have a "Hyper Boost" button on that HOF card? It's supposed to give a maximum OC.

HoF may look better aesthetically, but they are pretty funky in their warranty and support terms, so I'm feeling a bit insecure about the behavior I will get from them (if any) if something goes wrong with the card!

However the KingPin will give you great support and reliability from EVGA and the engineering i saw going into the card is beyond amazing! It feels like it's the best of the best you can get from all cards of the same category (980Ti, 980,780Ti etc). Not complaining by any means tho!

I didn't even bother with the button, since i haven't been able to understand what it is suppose to do, and there is so little info and reviews about the hall of fame 980Ti's which the button features may differ in that model from previous ones. If you can find what it does in the main KFA2 website, please let me know as there are still question marks to me about that button and won't ever be using something I don't know 100% what it does!

Hyper Boost increases core clocks by up to 8% beyond GPU Boost 2.0’s dynamic overclocking function and users’ custom OC settings. Multiple world record benchmark scores have been broken already as a result.

I pressed the button and tried to game. So far no change at all has been made! My clock is still 1426mhz (no extra 8%) and the voltage 1.2120V (no extra voltage bump) and the fans have been rumpling up the same way as before! . Is it broken or something? Or do i press it only when I'm about to overclock?

Update: I tried getting that extra 10mhz again without pressing the button and i noticed artifacts the moment I did. I brought it back to where it was, then pressed the button and the artifacts disappeared, but in the long run of the test re-appeared but nothing like before. Very minimal boost to be honest
