Hi, I got an EVGA RTX 2080Ti XC Ultra card but a fan is defective. I returned it. While I am still waiting for a RTX 2080 XC Ultra card to be shipped, I read some posts as recent as 1 or 2 days ago about failing of the above titled cards (regardless of brand nor model). Now I am a bit concerned. Is it advisable to give the RTX 2080 a try or just cancel it and get a 1060 for temporary use until these issues have been sorted out? One concern is that the price of Nvidia GPUs will continue to increase (as I have been observing for the past few months) so waiting for a few months later may end up paying more.

I just happened to view another video on the possible reason for failure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5memuI5WD4

The GDDR6 VRAM is suspected to malfunction at stock clock rates and under-clocking the memory alleviates many of the reported artifacts. However is based on personal observation by the individual, no official statement has been released AFAIK.

So if you want to buy anything from the 20XX series, perhaps double check which memory it is using as the majority of users have not reported serious issues.

Edit: Another pretty disturbing case: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2018/11/15/nvidia-confirms-rtx-2080-ti-problem-the-same-day-one-bursts-into-flames/#5d0b29234958

Thanks. Have they found out the reasons for failures? I asked EVGA but they had no comment.
I guess if I go for 10x0 card for temporary use, I may not be able to play 4k gaming for awhile.

The 2080 I have has been running great since November. It's the 2080, not the ti version. It's the MSI Seahawk edition. I would say if you want something that has that much VRAM, go with the 2080. The TI's are still unstable but you might be ok with the FE. Nvidia just recently made it for sale again on their site so that must mean they are pretty confident that these won't fail. Also the chances of a new generation of cards coming out late this year are very unlikely. Maybe 2021

The one I bought is 2080 FTW3 Ultra Gaming. How is this one?

I think this morning I read a thread on Reddit about issues with a RTX 2080 card. The user just used the card for a few days.

The issue mostly is within the Micron Memory modules. and with 2070 and 2080 Tis mostly. Since you have a 2080, you have less chances of failure. But, just to be sure, open up GPU Z and check which memory module you have, its going to be one of three, Micron, Samsung, Hynix. Samsung being the most reliable and stable one.

Thanks. I returned my 2080 card and got an EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming instead for both gaming and work related matters. Anyway, I have just installed GPU Z on my computer. Under Memory Type, it is GDDR (Samsung). Does that mean I got the Samsung module?

When I installed Precision X1 the first time, there was a firmware upgrade. Only the middle of the three fans were spinning. Not sure why I heard clicking sounds. I turned off the machine and spinned the three fans in both directions. No clicking sound so it was not caused by wire hitting the fan blade.
