Question Are wifi antennas conductive, if there not insulated well?

I bought a universal wifi antenna and am not so sure about it. It does not seem to be insulated in any way.

Could i just use 26 gauge silicone wire instead and just solder it on to the little wifi card?

Then i would know the wire is insulated with silicone, i would put something on the end of the wire of course.

Those antennae are fine as is. You don't need to modify them in any way. Try routing them out of the way and as linear as possible and you'll be fine.

Please be careful. You keep asking related questions of significant safety concern.
 
You are going to have to explain what you mean "insulated". They have a plastic coating not sure silicon is somehow better. In addition the antenna do not use simple wire. That is a coax wire with a center conductor for the signal along with a shield that goes around it. Think the coax cable used by tv or a cable modem just much smaller

In addition the wire used for wifi antenna is very specially designed to have low loss at the high frequeccies used. It is also very hard to get good solder joint, they need to be perfect to not causes loss of signal.

In the end don't mess with them. If you need some other length have them custom made if you can not buy premade cables of the proper length.
