Well, on contract you're looking at $200... and if you need smartphone service the contract is kind of already in the cards. But otherwise I agree with you because I personally would have no interest in putting that much media on a phone (I would just move over what I need for portability). For home there are better media playback options, though small ARM-based devices are becoming viable.

The Atom processor is like a enhanced 486 or pentium 1 MMX processor with SSE2 instead of MMX and 1666 MHz instead of 166 MHz.
It's internal structure isn't advanced not even like a pentium 2 at least, i believe it was the first out-of-order after pentium pro.
Some atoms are dual core and some even have hyperthreading.
So no, sorry, no core duo technology exists in atom, perhaps the SSE2 only.
Even VIA beats Atom, please.

The Medfield Atoms and the netbook/very low end desktop Atoms are using two different architectures.
