ArmA 3 Suggestions

Good afternoon everyone!

I've been searching around for a while and tried a few different things.. I may have narrowed it down but I want to get some other ideas mixed in to make sure..

I am unable to play ArmA 3 above 35 fps. I also get consistent drops when going into towns or traders around 5-10 fps. This seems a little off as other friends who play the exact same server, with lower grade machines, get higher fps at the same detail levels.

Here are my specs...

EVGA 980 TI
16GB Memory
Xeon 1231 V3 at 3.4 GHZ

What I am running into is that no matter what the details I am playing at, the game won't go above 40fps. I can auto detect at near ultra or turn every setting off and play at the lowest setting with the same performance.

I understand the game isn't optimized very well, but I SHOULD be getting better performance than someone with 8gb memory and a 970/980 gtx card.

What motherboard do you have? Arma 3 is insanely CPU intensive, if your motherboard allows it, force all the 4 cores to run at turbo speed (3.8Ghz)

Arma 3 will push one (maybe two) cores, not threads, to its breaking point. It also ignores hyperthreading (you can probably turn it off in bios and see a slight fps increase) and is extremely light on the GPU. With a 4790k at stock clocks at 1080p with medium settings, you can get nearly the same FPS with a GTX 970 and an R7 240. People running heavily overclocked G3258's are reporting better framerates than people like me with lower end i5's and locked i7's. It's also the only game I've ever played where my old 4.9ghz~ish Athlon 760k performed roughly on par with my current i5.

Arma 3 likes two things: high IPC and high clock speed. Core count over 2 begins to matter less, GPU performance is an added bonus, and hyperthreading matters none at all.
