I am looking at the ASRock 970M PRO3 Micro ATX for an FX6300 build. I would like two 8GB sticks. Partspicker says it supports DDR3-1066 / 1333 / 1600 / 1800 / 1866 / 2100 / 2400. The ASRock list of supported memory only goes to 2000 MHz and that's only 1-2 GB sized sticks? Am I overlooking something or is my newbie showing? I'm thinking the list is just old.

I am putting together several different builds at different price points with the intention of waiting until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to pull the trigger when prices will hopefully be at their lowest.

I want to be able to overclock so so the G3258 would let me do that. Unless prices really tank, I doubt I'll be in the i5 territory even though I set up a build with that chip. The i3-6100 would be an uptick from the G3258 but no oc. I am 62 now so my gaming isn't what it used to be but I would still like the opportunity to get into an online game and aggravate my fellow players. I do use Photoshop some too.

The 3 builds so far are:

i3-6100
G3258
i5-4690K

These builds are moving targets. For example, cheaper cases or coolers. Today's question was for an AMD build. I just picked the FX6300 because I didn't know anything about the other chips yet. I'm open and thankful for any and all suggestions.

Oh, and I was also looking at a system I could upgrade later.

Don't buy older tech or pure dual cores.
Youor choices are simple: i3 6100, i5 6500 or i5 6600k if you really want to overclock. You don't really need to, though.
Personally, for teh purposes you stated, i would just get the i3 6100 and be dont with it.
