ASROCK 990FX Extreme 9 + AMD 8350 issue

Hello Guys,

My RIG:-
ASROCK 990FX Extreme9
AMD 8350 CPU
G.Skill Ripjaws 4x4GB RAM
SAPPHIRE HD7950 Vapor-X
Corsair 850 Watt PSU
WD 1 TB HDD
NZXT Phantom Cabinet

Bios version printed is P1.00-15A

I just bought a new rig and I couldn't get pass the motherboard Dr. Debug "00" code. I checked the CPU and it seems comfortably installed.

I have not been able boot up.

Can somebody please help me ?

Is the 8-pin power cable connected? Is the CPU fan spinning when starting the board?
Make sure that the CPU fan is connected to the CPU fan header (4 or 3 pin).

Yes, the fan is spinning, and the CPU 8-pin power is connected. Is there some way I can confirm if it is getting powered or not. I can see the GPU lights being on.

Is the board outside the case? Try reseating the CPU.

I removed the sink and CPU and then again installed them .... still no luck !!! :-(

Then how should I know which component to RMA ?

I'm not aware of a method for common users other than swapping components. I guess you don't have an extra CPU.
I suggest RMA-ing both of them, CPU and motherboard or take them to a local shop for testing, if they don't charge too much.
Doesn't the retailer accept returning items in 30 days?

The problem is I ordered the components on a timeline and I received my last component yesterday. My 30 days ended yesterday on 25th sadly !! I'll try that local shop deal and by the time contact ASROCK and AMD for RMA. Thank you for the support !!! Is there anything else I should keep in mind ?

Check the CPU for bent pins, but I guess it's not the case. When receiving the new components test them firstly outside the case, on the board's box.
Install only CPU, CPU cooler, one RAM stick, graphics card, DVD drive, keyboard and mouse. Make sure they work before installing the board in the case.
If OK, then remove the graphics card, all cables and install the board inside. Check that the standoffs match the board's installing holes. An extra standoff would short the board.
Please post back the findings after getting back the components.

I have received my new CPU ... now waiting for Motherboard ........ the ASROCK 990FX Extreme9 is out of stock .......... so I am going with Asus Sabertooth R2.0
Any suggestions ?

Not really, I'm looking for a board myself. I wanted to buy the Sabertooth 990FX/GEN3 R2.0 but Asus Singapore doesn't sell it.

I know the Asrock kept the feature and price at the sweetest spot possible. I actually loved the motherboard but well I had no other option.

Check the bios chip, if it has any ping with sulfate that's your problem. Happened to me a few weeks ago with my 990FX Extreme4 because i had my GPU on the 3rd lane and the dust coming from back of card looking it from the case side panel it was right above the bios chip so it was dusty and since i live in the caribbeann that equals humidity and BAM i got sulfate on a ping in the bios chip. So i carefully removed it (yes it removable), cleaned the ping from the greenish stuff and voila got my motherboard back.

Most people forget about this, but the motherboard itself doesn't really die unless it's electrical but then it all relies on the bios chip. So if you're getting Code 00 check your processor on another PC to remove the doubt of any processor issue then check the bios chip.

If you still having this problem might want to check the bios chip.
