Hello! I am planning to get my first PC Build, and I would like to pair a Ryzen 5 3600 with an Asrock B450m Pro4.
I checked both max speed and both claim being 3200MHz.
The mobo website has a listing saying it can run 3600MHz, but only 3200Mhz is supported(Check Image). Does this simply mean it can use the 3600MHz kit but only run it at 3200MHz?
So I want to know if the Ryzen 5 3600 can use the 3600mhz and if the board is overclockable to use beyond 3200MHz.
I'm new to this world, and there is just so much information at first, that I get overwhelmed.
Thanks!

Thank you for your help!
Did your Pro4 come Ryzen 3000 Series Ready?
Since I am pretty stuck with my case choice, I think I will wait a few months and try to snag an RTX 3060 Ti, and maybe a B450M Mortar Max, but if I can't ill get the pro4 :)

Yes, it was bought last year, and I paid to have the latest BIOS update (just to be sure - but that was a year ago). I'm not even sure they did anything!
Since then, I've applied other updates, and the the latest Ryzen 5000 CPU upgrade, as AsRock are very good at supporting BIOS updates on their B450 mobos. (this is the BIOS update due in Jan 2021 but delivered early for XMas....).
I think there will probably be another upgrade, as NVidia are looking at enabling PCI boosting.

Probably the reason it limits supported speed to 3200 is because the CPU's (Ryzen 3000) are only rated to support 3200.

So anything over 3200 is an 'overclock' and depends on quality of the CPU silicon for your board to achieve it.

look like it 3200
but you could try manually oc to 3600

Thank you for both your replies, I am now checking on another board, just to be safe.
It states speeds for R5(2667/2800/2933/3000/3066/3200/3466/3733/3866), however, it doesn't state 3600 exactly, would it only run at 3466, or could it really go for 3600?

It means they've tested it to 3466 but it doesn't mean it absolutely won't work at 3600. But then, it's not a guarantee it will work to 3466 either as even that is an overclock. Anything over 3200 is an overclock for Zen2 or Zen3 processors. As with any overclock it depends on silicon quality.

Since this will be my first build ever I don't think I will bother with overclocking for now.
I will either get the B450M PRO4 & 3200Mhz or the B450M PRO-VDH MAX & 3600 MHz, even if it only runs at 3466. Thank you for your info!

Sorry if this is too late. Lots of speculation here.
I have an AsRock B450M Pro4, an AMD R5 3600, and Corsair memory that supports 3600MHz. Everything works just fine at 3600: Infinity fabric (1800), CPU (varies from 3600-4200), and memory (at XMP2.0 3600 level). Technically, the XMP 2.0 is an 'overclock', but I can drive this memory to 3733, the cas18 down to cas16 etc.
To be honest, overclocking only adds a few percent difference. It's not going to alter the responsiveness of the system. Setting to XMP does help (but I don't regard that as overclocking, as it is tested by manufacturers).
Many people just want to get the best out of their systems (it's 'free'): hence the interest in overclocking. Serious overclocking CAN bring a change, but it would probably be cheaper to buy the 'next level up'.

If I get the Pro4, I will ask the vendor first, or if I can also pay to have it updated, Thanks bud!
