[SOLVED] ASRock B450M Pro4 with Ryzen 5 1600 AF

Hi,

I bought this Board and CPU Combination yesterday and ask the Dealer for the installed Bios Version. They told me its 3.90. Is this a Problem?


This Version is only for 3000 CPUs and there is a Warning Message on Website "ASRock do NOT recommend updating this BIOS if Pinnacle, Raven, Summit or Bristol Ridge CPU is being used on your system" What they mean with this?

Maybe here are some Users with an ASRock Board , Zen 1 or Zen + Gen. CPU with latest Agesa Code and could tell if this is problematic or not. Thx

I didn't mean to revert either, I only meant to answer what to update. If it comes with 3.9 and it works then stay with it of course.

But 2.0 is the 'starts with' support BIOS for 1600AF, go to the compatibilty table linked, at the very bottom, model no. in parens ends with 'AF'. The original 1600 'starts with', up a bit where the model no ends with 'AE', is ver. 1.0.

What you mean with "You´ll be fine?" You are using a 3000 CPU on your Rig but what about non 3000 CPUs? ASRock don´t recommend the latest Versions with non 3000 CPU. I contact ASRock Support for a Statement but there is no Reaction so far.

They don't mean it the way you think they do. What they are trying to say is that, if there is no problem with a person's system, they should not update from that specific BIOS version, if they do not have 3000 series CPU. All-in-all, the 1600 will work flawlessly with that BIOS on that board.

Pinnacle Ridge = 1st gen and Summit Ridge = 2nd Gen CPU's. I think it means exactly what it says...do do not update to it if you do not have Matisse which is 3rd Gen. Whether your 1600 is an AE (Pinnacle) or an AF(Summit) based CPU, it means do not update to it. Even if it should work with your 1600, should you have a problem with a failed update and call Asrock tech support to get an RMA for return they might turn that question right back at you and claim 'user error' to deny warranty coverage.

Lastly: there's also no good reason to update beyond v. 2.00 even for an 'AF' 1600. That version had AGESA 1.0.0.6 which was the last, and best for memory support, for both Ryzen 1000 and 2000 processors before starting on Ryzen 3000 or 2000ge(an apu) AGESA's. To play it safe, I'd go no further than that one until getting a Ryzen 3000.

Pretty sure that's not what it means. The warning says " do NOT recommend updating this BIOS", and not "do NOT recommend updating to this BIOS", which is what you are saying. They are saying if you have a stable system with your current BIOS, and you don't have a 3000 series CPU, don't get any newer BIOS updates after the current one.

You're making my case...

The first part of your interpretation is pretty much the common sense advice everyone uses when asked about any BIOS update: if you don't have need for it, just don't.

Since in order to run the 1600AF processor he needs v2.00 (it's the minimum support BIOS in the compatibility table) THAT's the version he should start with. With that version he will have a stable system AND he doesn't have Matisse...it fits your interpretation.

That's what the original question was - whether the 1600 AF will work with the 3.9 BIOS.

Thx for help Guys. The Board is working fine and rock stable with the CPU and 3.90 Ver. My RAM is stable too with 3200mhz, so everything ok. ASRock support ---> no reaction...

I think we can close this here.
