Hi
I have a asrock b85m-hds motherboard can i put a single 16gb ram stick in it
i don't really no much about computers but is there a maximum or limit to how much ram i cant put in it

Solution
You may have to get another motherboard if you want 16 GB in one slot.

Some sites say socket 1150 (what your motherboard is) doesnt support 64 GB total.

And I dont know if there are any socket 1150 motherboards that have 2 slots that support up to 32 GB

But, if you change the motherboard, you'll have to change the processor as well

This may work but it's socket 1151 not the same as yours. And you cant install your processor on this

No you can't. Unless it's a socket 1150 motherboard

You cant put it on a socket 1151 motherboard. Socket 1150 and 1151 are not compatible with each other

So, you'll have to use what you've got now. But you cant use 1 16GB stick

Or get socket 1151, but you'll have to buy another cpu if you do. And ram, if you cant find a motherboard that doesnt support DDR3 ram

So I'm not worried about the 16gb ram stick now I just wanted to see if it was possible with ny current motherboard so I could have room to upgrade if I needed. But now I'm thinking of just getting a new motherboard with 4 ram slots so I can have up to 32gb of ram if I want
Just want one that will fit my current cpu and u said it has to be 1150 socket right so just wanted some names of some that are fairly cheap so I can have a look at them online

Well mine's one the ASUS H97M-E 4 slots 32 GB max. 8 GB in each slot. This may need a BIOS update. It needs BIOS 2302 to support your CPU

B85M-G which is also ASUS 4 slots 32 GB max. Altho this needs BIOS 2301 to support your CPU. You may have to ask wherever you buy this to update the BIOS before they send it. Or if you buy it locally

ASUS Z97-A same as above. This should support your CPU without a BIOS update

ASUS B85M-E same as above . This needs BIOS 2202 to support your CPU. So it may need a BIOS update first

ASUS Z87-PRO same as above. This needs BIOS 2103, so may need a BIOS update to support your CPU

Even tho your CPU is compatible with these, they need the right BIOS on the mobo, before they'll work with your CPU

If you're on Ebay Australia, they maybe cheaper there
