Hi everyone!
I've recently bought some gear for an upgrade. I upgraded as follows :
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE --> Intel ore i7-3770K
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 5770 --> XFX HD 7950 DD
MOBO: MSI ms-7577 --> AsRock Extreme 6 Z77
The following Gear has stayed the same:
SSD: Crucial M4 128GB
HDD: 2x 500GB RAID0
PSU: Thermaltake toughpower 750W
RAM: Patriot G-Series 2x 2GB, 1600MHz
CPU Heatsink: Scythe Ninja II
I also threw in some more case fans. My rear fan had died so added a scythe slipstream 140mm. My heatsink had a splipstream 120mm so i got another for push pull.
So anyway, I was putting it together last night and had it all in place and was just inserting the GPU and realised it wasnt going into the slot. The side nearest the rear panel could go in all the way but the side closer to the center would not go in fully. I checked to see if any cables or anything else was obstructing it and realised that it wouldnt slot in fully because it was in contact with the grey sata ports! and i think maybe one of the onboard heatsinks might have been affecting it too. So the ard basically won't slot into PCIE2 slot.
Has anyone else had this problem?I'm mainly posting it in case anyone is thing of buying these two together but was also wondering if anyone has had this problem as well?
I also checked the manual and it says ideally use PCIE2 for a PCIe 3.0 graphics card with 16 lanes. PCIE4, which i was forced to use, says it supports PCIe 3.0 with 8 lanes. So that kinda sucks! Will there be much difference in being limited to x8 rather than x16? I used the gpu for a couple months in my old rig which was only PCIe 2.0.
Thanks for reading!
Regards,
DeanM
