Asrock GPU compatibility

I have an Asrock P67 Extreme4 Gen3 mobo, intel i7-2600K CPU, 2x4Gb G.skill sniper RAM, a 1000w Silent Pro Gold PSU, and I was running a EVGA Geforce GTX 970 ftw, but I think it might just be toast.. Anyways, I need a new GPU for now while I look into the other, and I'm wondering what exactly is or isn't compatible with my mobo. Since my mobo has ddr3 DIMM slots does that mean I can't get a DDR5 GPU? I was told to look into 1070ti's because they're almost as good as a 1080, but at a lesser price. Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advanced!

You'd be fine running a 10XX series GPU. It depends on your budget but the 1070 ti would be a big step up from the 970.
