I am looking to see if the amd fx 6300 will run on the asrock n68 vs3 fx motherboard. On the asrock website it says that the amd fx 6300 is supported but i have heard of people having their cpu throttled with this motherboard so i was hoping you guys could give me some tips on how the amd fx 6300 runs on this board and if it does throttle how to stop it from doing it.

Thanks

Hello,

It will work (be sure you have the latest BIOS), but that motherboard is indeed a very low-end one; for FX, you will need a 970/980/990 chipset (or an 990/990FX chipset, for overclocking).

Do you think it would throttle??

It will throttle in the best case scenario; for such an old generation motherboard, by using an FX-series CPU you will witness some fireworks for sure. If you already have the motherboard, go for an used Phenom x4 945 (3GHz, quad core).

If still want to test your luck with the FX-6300, reduce the working frequency by lowering the multiplier and also reduce the CPU voltage (for 3GHz, max. 1.25 Volts)

Some people have recommended the Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 with the fx 6300 what do you think??
Here are some people using the gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 and amd fx 6300 on http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/builds/by_part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga78lmtusb3

I cannot recommend an old-generation motherboard for the latest CPUs; on the other hand, that Gigabyte is much better than the initial ASRock.

If you don't have either the CPU or the motherboard, may I suggest you something else? Go for an i3 Haswell and a cheap SK1150 motherboard, you will have higher performance and much lower power consumption, and the possibility to use later an i5/i7:
