Im considering upgrading my cpu due to it not performing like i wish on certain games for example rust. I currently have a r5 7600x and im considering jumping to a r7 9800x3d as it would last a while. Im just not sure if its worth it or if i should wait for a new gen

CPU: R5 7600X
RAM: kingston fury beast 32gb 6000mhz cl30 ( 2x16 )
GPU: rx 7800xt
Motherboard: asus tuf gaming b650-plus wifi
PSU:corsair rm750e
Its not really worth it, even with a 9800X3D you would only gain about 15% performance in most games, and thats on the high end. I would wait another generation or two, have you tried tweaking any game settings for some better performance?

Yeah, Artk2219 is correct. The average frame rate will only go up by about 15%....and that's at 1080p. It will be even less at 1440p and practically even at 4k.

HOWEVER, from my own experience, when I moved from a 7600x to a 7800x3d, I noticed a HUGE improvement in game smoothness. So 1% lows are vastly improved. Pretty much all micro jittering is gone. This is with a 4080 super

Your system should be plenty for that old of a game. You are way beyond recommended system requirements. Sure, but for some reason those specs are NOT what seem to be minimum. With my build i acheive max 90fps stable. For some reason the game runs way worse than it seems and any person ive seen using the 9800x3d has 200+ strable

but should i then go for the 7800x3d or should i just make an "investment" and go for the 9800x3d

The performance difference in gaming at 1440p is about 5%. The 9800x3d is better at keeping 1% low in some games and is more efficient in other tasks, but if the processor is intended solely for gaming, and you have a B650 motherboard, I'd go with the cheaper 7800x3d. It's a processor that will easily last you until the next generation of AM6, or even longer. I use it myself and am happy after upgrading from the R5 5600. But what's wrong with your 7600x? It's still a good processor for gaming.

Not performing as Id like to to. And id like to just future proof my build some more.

Your cpu matches the capabilities of the GPU it’s feeding and will still provide enough grunt to service faster GPUs.
Sadly the faster GPUs cost £££ or $$$.

For now you would be better off putting the money for a new CPU to one side and add to it. At some point look toward a GPU and CPU upgrade based on whatever CPU/GPU combo is available at the time.

Upgrading to a x800 x3d won’t give you a big improvement as the current GPU will bottleneck the system.
